HAYTIME: 1977, at Owlers Farm, Shackleton Hill, Hebden Bridge. The grass is going to seed, time to cut it. The farmer, Ernest Shaw mows the grass. The sun dries the cut grass and turns it into hay. Ernest uses the Wuffler to fluff up the hay and let air into the rows, to speed up drying. The baler comes out of the shed. Ernest made small rectangular bales. The bales are put onto a trailer and taken to the barns. Some are raised up using the elevator and if the entrance is low enough the bales are just manhandled in through the opening. We see Ernest putting bales through the opening with some help. I made this cine film in the summer of 1977. Music by Chris Zabriskie from You Tube Audio Library. Please feel free to share this.

I have a great feeling of meloncholy watching your videos. They take me back to the long, warm summers. I was a Cragg Vale lad. All our hay was harvested using a contractor. Neville Teal was his name if anyone remembers him. They were great times and i miss them terribly.

Love the old Bamfords Wuffler rowing up. IH B47 bailer. We had them both on our farm here in New Zealand.

Great memories of childhood , helping with the hay , the sound of the fordson major , keeping the dogs from getting in the way , they loved the ratting, sandwiches and my first taste of beer , learning how to repair the knotter on the baler , and getting a blocking for getting it wrong . 👍🇬🇧

Good video. Remember the old Bamford wuffler very well. One of my first tractoring jobs on the farm but in our case pulled by a MF35.

Same here from Ireland and if I remember correctly it was driven by little grey Fergie or the 35 but any it was a bastard of a machine always winding the hay around the drum and choking I reckoned at the time it was because the wheels were riding on the swarth the same time as drum was lifting crop it amazes me to see videos wufflers working so well

Yes I remember having to unbung the Wuffler too. They had a bit of a revival secondhand I recall for fluffing up damp rows of straw in wet harvest times . We replaced our Vicon turner and Wuffler with a Haybob eventually, which was a lot more efficient.

@@johnt7232 We had winding problems too. The cause was using a vicon acrobat to turn it, as it tended to wind the hay into ropes. We went back to using an old siderake, a bamlett if my memory serves me right, to turn the hay, which seemed to resolve the winding problem. My biggest gripe was that it was single row, and it seemed to take forever to do a field!
