Thank you very much; great instructions. I have had two Hayward Vac's in the last thirty years and have replaced everything once except the spindle gear. I am a 61 year old female who started working on my first Hayward 30 years ago. I knew nothing about them but they are so simple and easy to repair. And extremely reliable. It is the only pool vac I will ever own.

Awesome video! Twice now have had to watch in the last few years to reassemble the navigator, which, yes, it does fall apart during the last steps of disassembly. Great step by step instructions you don't get looking at a parts diagram. Thank you!

I was getting frustrated with my navigator that kept getting stuck in a corner when I came across this video. I replaced the top end, as the video suggests and viola! Good as new! Thanks Hank... I was ready to buy a new pool cleaner when I came across your video... :-). Thanks!

Our family has had that same unit for well over 17 years and just a few weeks ago it started doing circles and tangling up the tubing. Our pool guy has made several attempts to "fix it" but has failed miserably. He's a really nice guy, but it keeps doing circles and it's definitely not working properly. I got in the pool yesterday and I started fiddling with it. That gear that reminds me of the old Evel Knievel stunt cycle isn't moving freely, and when I pull up on it a little bit it does spin freely. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video and give me hope that I can fix it myself and hopefully have another 17+ years without any issues.

+RIDE SHARE DICK nice you've gotten that much use out of it. Could be the feet need to be replaced or that gearbox these pool sweeps look a lot more daunting than they actually are. When taken apart you can see how simple they are

Excellent! Thanks for the part number for the gear set. I noticed that little red tab stayed put on yours. When I disassembled mine, that red tab fell out. I think it’s the "program" that determines the route the vacuum takes. There’s also a gear box below that tab. But, I will order the gear set today. Thanks again!

Great Instuctions. Thank you for this video! the only thing I did was to add a "dab" of waterproof "grease" to all the gears on assembly - this also helped all the gears stay put on reassembly. I used the silicon "swimming pool" grease, as it's made for this sort of use.

Thank you for the video of the tear down and info, but my problem is that I'm dealing with a brand new, two week old vac. I'm clearly not dealing with warn gears. If I attempt to rotate the top round piece were the hose connects, it only rotates in one direction. I may have to tear it all down like you show, but I'm hoping for an easier solution than taking it all apart. I'll see what I can do. Thank you for the video.

Is it supposed to only spin one way. If you try to twist it the other way does it just stop?
@pokeyboy16 жыл бұрын
I have rebuilt my navigator a couple of times - usually because the feet were n't moving of the rocker assy to feet arms got sloppy. I would shim to make it tight fit again put had to use plastic shim. eventually had to get new pieces for all rockers parts. Now the no turning just started - I did that rebuild and had similar wear as I could spin that big hose gear as it would kip teeth. Its tight now but still no turn. I just took apart that little gear box with the 3/4 spin valve. Those little gears had similar wear like the pieces you replaced. So for $15 I'm replacing that rectangular gear box. and the orange donut for that hose gear. I wonder after all this I could have just bought a new navigataor. Mine is over 10 years old and runs all year in florida pool. I love it when it works fine.

hi Hank, this was a great video, but even after I replaced everything the main cone gear slips on the gears. Maybe the cone gear is worn out itself? All the gears are replaced but when I screw the main body back on and try rotating by hand it just slips (there is some rotation) but that's it. Main thing I noticed is the cone gear is very wobbly
@juke12253 жыл бұрын
I’m having the same issue. Put back together twice. The top gears move but skip now and then. If it skips it gets stuck. I’m wondering about super gluing the blue piece so it doesn’t move as super glue actually lasts underwater. Just not sure if that will mess something up.

What causes the pool cleaner hose to keep getting tangled up.
@hanksgarage_7 жыл бұрын
hard to say may be at the top of the sweep its not allowing the hose to turn in the pool sweep, pull it out and make sure it moves if it doesnt your sweep will need to be taken apart and diagnosed as to why its not working right.

@ImagineChristianity7 жыл бұрын
Yea, its amazing how fast a pool can turn on ya, especially during the summer! U probably already know this but, usually algae is just low chlorine level. But, if you're still getting algae even when the chlorine's good, clean your filter and then try a good algae treatment like Yellowtrine (powder) or Swimtrine Plus (liquid). If that doesn't work, take a sample of your water to your local pool store and check your Phosphate level. Phosphates are fertilizer for algae.

These things are junk. Hayward's replacement parts are defective from the factory. With these units, you can virtually replace everything and it will not work. Replaced gear box twice in 6mths, cone gear, cone gear bushing, and bought a Spindle Gear Replacement Kit, still won't turn properly. Suction is is good. Lower A Frame Kit put in this junk. Still won't work properly. Time to get a new unit.
