Cool idea! Keep in mind that firefighting is extremely dangerous. I am a firefighter with over 30 years of experience and I think everyone who has a system like this should be aware of this. Some tips... leave your recirculate / tank fill valve cracked when pumping water so that the pump doesn't heat up and prematurely wear out when water is not flowing. Temporarily close it during drafting so you get a good draft. Also, get your self a foot valve/ strainer for drafting. This will make pulling a draft or suction water with your suction hose, much easier. Keep your system full of gas and water during fire season so its ready to go. Be safe brother!

Thank you for the inspiration! The trailer I bought for $40 but I painted it with high heat paint. Next I always add a small bottle of (dawn dish soap) per tank of water. Dawn dish soap adds weight to water and acts as foam.

Hello from Nova Scotia, Not much to improve on, maybe a few fire rakes. You could check out the 1" forestry hose, see the difference for pressure/distance /water volume, as its easier to drag around and you could run two lines if need be....usually 1" is good for grass fires. I'm on a lake and purchased the fire package from Princess Auto/expensive but worth it...we've had 3 fires last year, 3, 8 and 40 kms away. As always another great video...

Those are some good suggestions. The first year I patched this together I filled the tank for the first time and that evening there was a ditch fire right outside the resort village entrance just down the road. We were the first on scene with our wagon and it worked great!. Might try that 1" hose, been curious about the pressure/distance /water volume differences myself. Thanks for watching as always.

@@cdnjan Princess Auto has a fire pump that comes with a cart ,hose and nozzle...its about 800.00 I purchased 2 years ago, works great, you might want to buy extra lengths of hose. I also have 2 sprinklers mounted on my roof....

@@jedidiah5131 thank you.. yes looks pretty good. I saw a few folks buy it and modify it right away. I don't want that. It seems silly to toss new parts. So just not sure if I want to buy it all together or pieces. What are you using as your water source for the roof sprinklers? I started this process thinking I just wanted those. I quickly realized there is no where near enough pressure for them to do much of anything. So here I am lol. I am rural.. very forested an impossible driveway for a firetruck.. just hope to keep any embers at bay until help arrives. I've been here 33 years every summer it's nerve wracking. The time is now or never with this weather chaos. I figure also that this is a great reason to get a pool🙂🙃

@@cdnjan I'm on a lake and very secluded. The local volunteer departments are well trained and quick to respond and they know of my place and have been into take a look around for pre fire planning. I use a small wajax pump for the roof sprinklers, lots of pressure. I've had two large fires come within 8km over the years. I have also limbed all close trees at least 15-20' up. There are also fire proof tarps you can buy to cover your house, I think I seen them in the states, but are probably very expensive. The fire pumps I have should be sufficient for any fires and reach of stream is well over 100' with lots volume. I also have 10 sheets of metal roofing to place against my house walls depending on the direction of the fire.... I was a military firefighter and volunteer for 30 years ....so I have a little experience under my belt. Best of luck.

I have a very similar setup. I added a small float to my strainer so it keeps it off the bottom of the pond I pump out of so it don’t get clogged up easily.

You could use this fire truck to get water to the tanks that supply water to the cabin/ yurt if you have (or will install ) a cistern-like system to provide running water.

Great video! In the process of building one myself , my one question for the trailer is how can i make it heavy duty to support the weight of the water? Did you replace the axle or springs on yours? All these trailers ive found the payload capacity is just about the weight of the tank filled to the top
@HayWoodsandWetlands
@HayWoodsandWetlands 4 жыл бұрын
Ours is probably NOT heavy duty enough to officially support this payload. If we were to rip at full speed down the grid roads with it I'm sure we'd have issues. We take it slow and stead when it's at full capacity and place a block of wood between the frame and springs so that it doesn't sag enough to snap a leaf. We're mostly concerned with our 5 acre yard as far as protection, but have rolled this thing a few kms without fail to help put out a resort village fire in the past. Thanks for watching!

What about pressure relief if you want to shut off the nozzle do you just crack open the tank valve a little? Or does it have a pressure relief valve?
