Being an English speaker watching English dubs of anime, it’s wild viewing from the other perspective, so to speak
@SurrealShako10 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's wild! English is my first language so I wonder what it's like for Japanese people to compare the show's English and Japanese audio lol. I think both versions have great actors
@joshualawrence296310 ай бұрын
Yeah, I agree! Although ive only seen the clips from this video, I think the Japanese voice actors did a LOVELY job! It’s great!! And, I thoroughly enjoyed the English VAs too, no complaints from me there, absolutely :). While watching this video, it made me think about and contemplate how, at the very least in THIS particular American animation, American animation often has more detailed and precise mouth movements than in Japanese animation. At least, that’s been my observation from watching anime and a variety of American animated content. Im sure it differs depending on the project though, like… from memory, I dont think Avatar: The Last Airbender animated very precise mouth movements… Regardless, my takeway was that it was probably RATHER DIFFICULT, for this show, Hazbin Hotel, to have been dubbed, because the mouth movements of the characters are animated quite precisely, compared to the anime that I’ve seen. So, in my opinion, the Japanese dubs dont match up very well to the mouth movements, compared to English dubs ive seen of anime. Anyway… this was all just very fascinating to me and new, novel experience for myself! I love the show, and i really appreciate this video for introducing me to the Japanese voice actors! I think they did an awesome job, and it’s just so cool to just… be on the “other side” so to speak, being an English-speaking watcher of anime. Super cool ^^
@SurrealShako10 ай бұрын
@@joshualawrence2963 That's one of the many ways Avatar is similar to anime ig lmao. I hope the live action Avatar on Netflix will have decent lip syncing for the Japanese track. I'm glad you like the vid! Thank you!
@Junosensei10 ай бұрын
@@joshualawrence2963 - It depends on the cartoon and the scene, but a lot of cartoons are dubbed first, then animated, or dubbed during animation with mouth movements either retimed or added after dubbing. Japanese anime can also do this, and retiming is somewhat common, but dubbing first is a very rare case. Both countries outsource a looooot of animation to Korea, Vietnam, and sometimes each other, so it's less a cultural thing and more a workflow thing.

This is one of my favorite things about the Japanese language. "Buchi" is basically used as a prefix to mean "done aggressively or violently." "Nomesu" basically just means "to make some fall forward", so "buchinomesu" is more like "pound someone's face into the dirt." Incidentally, "kakeru" means to lightly sprinkle powder or liquid over something, like spices or powdered sugar. "Bukkakeru" means, well, a fan of this show ought to know already.
