Im taking my CLP- (cdl permit-) tests in a few days. Getting help from my family for the costs of everything (class A + TWIC + Tanker / HazMat / Doubles/Triples endorsements, plus the cdl-school). My family originally only wanted to pay for the dmv class-a tests (permit & skills) & have me go through a community-college over an hour away that does the basic eldt for free. When i explained to them why i wanted the three endorsements and the twic, i showed this vid to them (as well as a vid about the TWIC-card and another vid about the trucking-school that id like to go to [not the community college]). I’m a diesel mechanic and the company I work for has nearly every type of trucker there is. Hazmat, heavy haul, and tanker drivers definitely make the most. Hazmat makes the most and especially if it’s federally contracted. There’s been times that the government needed a tanker full of god knows what to be hauled a few states over and they would pay 5-8k for one load. It’s really cool when it’s something very important and you get to run 85 on the highway and when you get pulled over, men in all black SUV’s pull the cop over and tell them to let you go😂

It’s not so much about it paying you more it’s about being more useful to the company but you will be busier also because you have a hazmat because you will do hazmat on top of what everybody else does. I have a hazmat and I am busy all the time, I only do maybe one hazmat a week though sometimes two are usually run six or seven loads a week and maybe one is hazmat but it definitely works to your advantage. You will make more money because you haul more loads but the actual amount of money paid on a hazmat load versus a regular load might only be 25 bucks more. Just depends where you work.

Getting ALL endorsements only broadens your horizon when looking for work; has absolutely nothing to do with pay. Rate of pay is predicated upon the firm’s profit margin and competition among is handful of competitors and what they pay to attract labor. Hazmat endorsements are merely a governmental barrier in order to regulate. Rate of pay is purely a microeconomics issue. People often try to connect these as “dots” as though they’re mutually inclusive, ie, “one begets the other”, but there’s absolutely ZERO relation. Sorry to blow up the bro science, but Correlation is not the same as Causation. If you’re talking about $$$, focus on the industry sector where the margins are the highest with few competitors. Nothing worse than an overcrowded watering hole…

There are actually alot of class b tanker with hazmat jobs. Hauling bobtail fuel loads and chemical plus delivering propane bottles ect many different jobs 👍😀

Yes there are hazmat otr jobs out there they are not as common and very specialized hauling acids chemicals fertilizer ect.. they should pay more as well I think it's worth it. not promising you will land a hazmat job right away as they usually require more driving experience but it won't hurt only help you to have it and more options 👍

I would just like to add even if you think you can’t pass the background check try anyway because I had to third-degree felony from 10 years ago and they let me get My hazmat in California of all places too. Obviously the crime might have a lot to do with it but my two charges were grand theft motor vehicle and a subsequent burglary charge for breaking into Saidvehicle. Idk if it matters that it was technically my car (had bill of sale in my name, was registered in 18 year old GF name at the time, I was knocking the door of 18 so I went through the adult courts)

It seems like truckers don’t fly much, but, another plus to getting your hazmat endorsement is being automatically qualified to use the tsa precheck line at the airports. “A lot faster” than the regular lines. If you have your hazmat endorsement then your flier number is the 2 letter abbreviation of your state and your drivers license number. Definitely a plus to get your hazmat endorsement .

@@norrinradd8923 TWIC card has a “travelers I.D. number” at the bottom right back corner on the card. Punch it in online or at the check-in counter at the airport to be able to go through pre-check. TSA pre-check is has been combined to the TWIC card. If you have a TWIC card, you’re also TSA pre-checked.

In California people with Hazmat endorsement are held to higher standards and will receive higher point count on their license for violations for example 1.25 for a violation that should only give you one point in your license.

Can you cite a reference that Hazmat adds to violation points in California? I have never heard that, and while I have not had much chance to experience it in 20 clean years of having Hazmat in California, I would think I would have heard that before. Was it just a judge adding extra points because you should have known better? Or was it a violation committed while hauling Hazmat? And it could be a thing that I just never heard of, which is why I am asking for something more than hearsay lol

Yes you have to pass a background check with the TSA. I dont know if that would disqualify you i believe it's up to the TSA. They don't allow any felony charges.

You always needed tsa fingerprints to qualify for hazmat I did the same thing 10 years ago process hasn't changed since I got mine. There is usually a 30 day waiting period to get approved if your a new applicant. This is also the same system for concealed carry permits. Have to get fingerprints done every 5 years

In Oregon, you goto the DMV office and take a thirty question test and it’s multiple choice. Easy endorsement. Every CDL driver should just get it and be done with it. It’s easy. Lastly, no one should be making videos while driving and CDL drivers should know this more than non-professional drivers.
