I have restored a Mazak Lathe (Japanese) and a couple of mills.............This restoration has been nothing short of sensational. Way beyond my capabilities and patience, and fascinating to watch. You are to be admired. Cheers, Davo from "Downunder"

Thanks David. This is the fifth machine that I've gone through like this. This one was by far the most work. Fortunately it will likely be the most useful of them all. Ken

Gorgeous machine. If I wasn't old as the hills and retired I'd love to have a horizontal boring machine.

What an incredible machine! I use a 1945 Cincinnati horizontal mill with a high speed vertical attachment. Same experience with accuracy. It is better than factory spec. They used to make machines with an unbelievable volume of cast iron. Things just don't seem to wear out when there is no vibration at all. DROs love these big, old beasts. As accurate as any micrometer if the head & scale are rigid. That cast iron makes that part fun. I used thick chunks of stainless for the brackets. The readings wouldn't flinch if I hit the mill with my car.

Beautiful machine, I hope we get to see more of this mill. Thanks a lot.

Thanks Rodney. I have a feeling this machine will see a lot of use and should star in some of my videos. Ken

Nice to see you making chips, rather than cleaning out the old chips from inside the machine... Also really nice to hear that the tolerances point to a rebuild before it was retired by the last owners. Great rescue and addition to your shop.

Totally envious of your HBM. Being from the East Coast of Ozz, I would gladly relieve you of that Metric machine. Little chance, eh! Fantastic condition really.

Thanks Carl. I think I'll hang onto it for a little while. I was in grade two when Canada went metric so have been exposed to it most of my life. When doing engineering calculations I much prefer using metric (in fact when we used to get imperial questions on exams I would convert everything to metric , solve the equations and convert the answer back to imperial). However, all of my machining experience has been using inches and I get totally lost trying to use metric in a machine shop environment. I know a tenth is tight but I don't intuitively know the metric equivalent. Once I have the read-outs installed I can have it both ways but I know which system it will stay on. Ken

Nice one Ken . I bet you gave a sigh of relief after the final checks ! 👍👍👍

Thanks Max. Yes, the sigh was so deep I got light headed. Then I got drunk for two days. So far I've done four jobs on it and, even without readouts, it is fantastic to use. The ease of use compared to my horizontal mill is night and day. I pick up the read outs for it on Monday. I think you will be very happy once you get yours up and running. Ken

Nice! How much cross travel does table have?
@hmw-ms3tx
@hmw-ms3tx Жыл бұрын
Thanks Stan. From limit switch to limit switch it has 55" of travel. You can manually move the table beyond the limit switches for a max travel of 57-1/16". Ken
