I feel like sneaky spirits actually lost a good amount of personality just in how the ghosts move In the GBA, they bounce up, then gradually accelerate down, which makes it fit with the swing melody a lot better. While in Megamix, they just kinda pop in and out a lot more suddenly, it looks less like bounces and more just slightly shifting to the right
@Boooo Жыл бұрын
It's like that in fever too, so I guess blame fever for that
@KuraIthys5 жыл бұрын
I suspect it might be a framerate difference indeed. A performance issue is possible, but unlikely. It's more likely to be directly related to a hardware difference. The exact refresh rate of the GBA's screen is 59.73 hz If the 3DS has displays that actually hit 60 hz precisely (or very close to it) Then running code that's framerate linked on a 3DS will mean the GBA code is running at 99.55% of the speed of the same code running on 3DS. This isn't directly tied to performance of the processor; rather it's caused by syncing to the display refresh rate. Obviously the exact rate of slowdown depends on what the precise framerates are. This was a semi-regular problem on TV based consoles due to the fact that NTSC refresh rates are 59.97 hz While PAL is 50 hz exactly. And that's obviously a much more dramatic change. The posterchild for this is Sonic - both because the gameplay slowed down, but also because the music did too. (later games such as Sonic 2 fixed the music, but the gameplay is still slower.) The SNES doesn't get music slowdown because it's Audio CPU runs on a completely independent clock, thus changes to the rest of the system don't do anything to audio playback. But games do still slow down unless they're tweaked with this in mind. Sometimes they were, much of the time they weren't. One known example of a game where the internal timing was changed correctly is Mario Kart - this game runs at exactly the same speed on PAL and NTSC. (Obviously the PAL version has a lower framerate - but all the timing of everything is still the same.)
@tox25645 жыл бұрын
It feels more likely that it's just how the songs are stored. In the GBA version, they're basically just midis. So they might not be the "correct" speed. In fact, alot of them are a different tempo compared to the OST release. And Megamix uses the OST versions for most songs (Bunny Hop and Rat Race are the exception, for gameplay reasons), which is why the tempo is different.

I like keeping all my different types of videos in one place because it's really convenient for me, but I recognize that not everyone who shares one of my interests is likely to share ALL of my interests. SO, here's the plan, as of today (two days after this video was uploaded), this video has gained me negative two subscribers. if that number is still negative on the 15th, I'll finally give in and make a second channel. if not, I'll keep posting random stuff here on my main channel.

9:50 It actually may be a result of how the original songs for Rhythm Tengoku are fully composed, but they had to be super-compressed and arranged down to the GBA's sound card. Once the Wii and 3DS versions of these games came out, they just used the original music tracks. (I believe that the arcade version of Rhythm Tengoku used the original music tracks as well)

I don't like this minigame but... Mixed 9:04 Spaceball: Until now this is my FAVORITE minigame (probably because i haven't played Megamix yet). I like the 3DS visuals but it's also kinda weird... GBA wins this one 10:41 Rat Race: I like the 3DS version better 11:55 Tap Trial: The monkeys are bigger on Tengoku and their faces are... So weird... I will go with the 3DS 13:50 Ninja Bodyguard: I like the 3DS better because on Tengoku the masked ninjas faces are kind of weird (take a look at them) 14:58 Marching Orders: I like both versions equally (Also this minigame made me suffer so much on the GBA) 15:53 Space Dance: 3DS 17:45 The Snappy Trio: Lol their heads are so weird and BIG on the GBA, I'll go with Megamix 18:55 Tap Trial 2: Again, the monkeys are weird on GBA, and again I will go with the 3DS 20:15 Cosmic Dance: Huh, the colors in Tengoku are lighter. Welp, sorry again but I like the 3DS version 21:45 Bouncy Road: Both 22:36 Night Walk: Awww both are adorable! (I choose the two) 24:07 Quiz Show: UUUGH this one is just boring, but in visuals the best one is the 3DS (but still, this minigame will always be boring) So, which one wins? I decided to document a few other differences that were missed. Karate Man (Karate Man Returns) - With the removal of the Flow gauge also comes the removal of the "Oh yeah" sound effect that can be heard at 0:39. - It's worth noting that the lightbulbs were probably changed because they serve a more specific purpose in the other Karate Man games. Rhythm Tweezers (Rhythm Tweezers 2) - The vegetables have a slightly different reaction, not necessarily redrawn, where their eyes grow wider. - The pulled hairs don't remain on screen during transitions in Megamix. The Clappy Trio (The Clappy Trio 2) - Not a difference, just wanted to point out that they're lions and not monkeys. You're not the only one that's made this mistake either. Sneaky Spirits (Sneaky Spirits 2) - This game is partially based on the Rhythm Heaven Fever version, as is the case with The Clappy Trio, Power Calligraphy, and Tap Trial. - The spirits stay above the wall for longer. Power Calligraphy - The "Get Writing!" text doesn't appear at the start, a change that wasn't present in Fever. - Discarded pages take longer to move offscreen. Rat Race - Interestingly, the plates and cups are present in the GBA version, but only appear in remixes. Tap Trial - Yet another one from Fever, but with more differences than you'd expect, such as the removal of the monkey's text at the start. - The giraffe's thought bubble appears at the top of the screen, as mentioned, but in Fever it was a much smaller speech bubble at the top of the screen. Ninja Bodyguard - To fit with the artstyle better, the control display above the sword is a different color. Marching Orders - In the "OK" epilogue, you can see that the squadmates were given completely different hairstyles. You can see these in the GBA credits scene. It is a character redesign but it's different enough to be worth mentioning. Night Walk - The textboxes look completely different.

In censoring most traditional japanese references, one of the characters in the final face was changed, that being the ear. Definitely not something I noticed; I had expected all characters to be changed

When you left tap trial 2 tempo as it is, it look like tengoku getting tap lessons from megamix

One thing about the whisker pulling... The eyes get bigger with each pull while GBA stays static.

The Reason Why megamix spaceball waited at the start was becuse the fact that There's a mini tutorial at the start of gba that requierd you to hit 4 balls in a row to proceed.

Things I noticed in tap trial: the girls posture is different, the giraffe looks different and the monkeys are smaller, that's all it is

I was quite surprised to find out that the guy that youtube recommended me for 6 months straight on the counting the entries in the Super Mario series is actually apparently head of a very specific niche (which I completely fall within) of people obsessed with: 1) languages 2) rhythm heaven 3) arbitrary definitions and pointless debates on them 4) base-10 being a shitty number base. what did upset me however is having spent an entire day last month analysing the difference between previous games and megamixes myself, only to find out that it could have been avoided if I only watched that mario video sooner.

Karate man did something: whenever your flow meter go to max the same punches with hard objects are the same for the soft objects Rhythm tweezers did something: in the 3ds the eye go bigger whenever you pulled out hair but in gba this never happened

The giraffe from tap trial looks creepy in megamix with those eyes
