I think you noticed too. I mean, I really like the way they showed Sarah's simple, measured life on this day. A small piece in which nothing out of the ordinary happens. And you well understand, looking at this, that she is not ready for what is coming, and the whole world is not ready.

It’s actually such a good bait and switch that the writers pull on people who haven’t played the game. 35 minutes of all Sarah only for the big twist that no one saw coming. Made it that much harder to watch even if you’ve played the game! - Blake

"Sticking to the game" apparently in the sense that they're keeping the main story but fleshing out more of the things we didn't know. Sort of like getting to see extra scenes that were cut from the game. More like additions than changes. FEDRA is certainly more humanized, Joel has a more personal reason to help Marlene, and the whole of Sarah's day... Oh man the addition of Sarah's day. I'm stoked.

I heard/read somewhere that the director/creator asked Bella not to play the game bc they wanted her to find Ellie organically, and not just take what Ashley Johnson did and try to duplicate that.

Yes. Gustavo Santaolalla was brought in to do the music for the show, and clearly reworked some of his game music to fit the action of the TV series. The music from the game is now so intertwined with the characters and story that its absence would have left a gaping hole in the show.

You should totally play Left Behind. It has a SOLID ending encounter that is intense as hell. You REALLY feel the intensity of the situation, feel like you're back up against a wall. It's awesome.

the only one of the actors that has heard of the game before was bella ramsey the rest have not and bella wanted to play it before but neil drunkman advised her not to so she wouldnt compared her performance and character to ashley johnsons version please let me know what you think

Never played the game but I do know a bit about it, that is what makes this good, is the realistic science, there is even a kind of fungi that grows on grain, I wonder if this is why they bring up pancakes, cookies and cake and such

I think this feels different from other adaptations because I'm actually excited to see what they're able to add to the story. They nailed the tone of the game, the personalities of the characters, and the CGI/practical effects, so I actually trust them to play around with the sections of the plot that need to be changed for pacing reasons.

ok guys, I want to know your thoughts in 1 of the most under appreciated changes. The relationship between Tommy and Joel. Warning, I ill talk about stuff from the game and something that will most likely pop up in the series as well. So be warned. In the game, Tommy just calls and asks for Joel when Sarah picks up the phone. and later he just arrives with the car and after being your navigation through the city and Sarah dies, he is gone. you don't hear anyone talking about him anymore, only when you meet the fireflies it is mentioned that Tommy was part of it. Then later in the game you suddenly bumb into him. Here the relationship between Joel and Tommy is much more clear and that they really care for each other. And throughout the Boston part you hear Joel Talking about getting that battery to get a car to work so he can go find and save Tommy. That never happens in the game and the only reason Robert is introduced is to give Joel and Tess a reason to meet with Marlene. The series has made the random parts in the story much more related to what is happening. The smuggling thing from Joel and Tess is also much more clear now that Joel meets that guard. And that THAT same guard tells Joel things are messed up around the block and DON'T go out at night while meeting him outside the wall is perfect to keep things connected. Just wanted to know what you think about those changes that shows a much better relationship between what is happening in the world and the reasoning for actions of the characters.

I like all of the changes that they have made so far. But the reason Joel is leaving Boston and the build up on Sarah’s day is by far my two favorite. Added context while staying faithful is all I could ever ask for - Blake

Honestly people were complaining about this for the most stupidest things.. They complained that it was boring and that it started it like every other zombie apocalypse They complained that there was a 20-year time Gap They complained that Sarah's death was a cliche These are the kind of people that you will never be able to make happy with a show because I had to ask what kind of shows are these people watching that they think this adaptation is so bad compared to what they think is good

A friend of mine who has seen it all 9 episodes said to me that the story is very respectful to the original story. But at the third episode, the show goes on another perspective. We probably gonna have another point of view ( new characters maybe?) that is based on the notes that you can find in the game. He doesn't tell me much more cause i don't wanted to know too much but i'm very hyped that even us, gamers, are gonna be surprised by some decision made in the storytelling.

Don't feel bad for those like me who came to love TLOU, who weren't even aware of a corresponding video game.... TLOU is just a great story, written, acted and produced at an extremely high caliber, in service of this great story! Every turn in the story grabbed me and didn't let go!

Alright. Just found you guys yesterday. Caught up on Haunting of Hill House (patiently awaiting your reactions to the following Mike Flanagan shows), and watched the Conjuring Universe reactions. But I also have a tendency to torture myself. So here I am, watching your Last of Us reactions. Edit: Also, Halo season 2 is much better than the first season if you ever wanted to give the show another shot. I also liked season 1 a good amount, but I'm not a lifelong fan or anything, so it's not as near and dear to my heart. And, uh, not sure if you guys have seen any of them, but the Child's Play/Chucky and Evil Dead franchises (movies and shows) come highly recommended from me. And my profile picture is Tingle from The Legend of Zelda, so you know my opinion is valid. Edit 2: Totally agree about the HBO stuff. They're s fantastic studio. Even their DC shows are great. I also like a majority of the the DC movies, but the shows are just something else. Can't say any DC movie has made me cry, but I CAN say that Doom Patrol has made me cry a lot. And other shows like Peacemaker, Pennyworth, and Harley Quinn are pretty great, too. Also, Netflix's DC shows are pretty good. The Sandman, Sweet Tooth, and The Deadboy Detectives which came out recently.

Hmm, not sure why you said it felt like a lot was packed into the episode, like it was sped up, which is factually untrue. In 1 hour 20 minutes in the game you are further ahead in the story than we ended here (you're generally in the diagonally leaning skyscraper at that point). They actually paced it slower on purpose, adding a lot more like the start explaining the fungus, Sarah's day itself, more detail on the Fireflies and Tess etc.

So far Best Adaptation ever… Can’t wait for what’s coming… As a Fan I love “Marlene” 😅 I know the bit at the Beginning was to all who have not played the Game to setup everything which was Good. I mean it was good to see Jonathan from The Mummy Trilogy once again. He’s getting old though 😅 Looks like HBO knows how to get the Job Done. I said it once I’ll say it again. HBO should have gotten Halo. It would have made so much of a difference!

I did not notice that but now that you mention it, I see the spores in a few moments. Personally I hope that they just didn’t encounter an area with heavy enough spores to use masks bc I find that to be a very important feature in regard to Ellie’s “secret.” But I can also say every change they’ve made has been good so far so not super worried about that just yet! - Blake

Just some advice guys, your mic volume is so strong you can't hear any of the show when you speak. So when you speak it breaks the immersion completely. Either adjust the audio balance or talk less. Is this a reaction video or is it a book club equivalent of a TV?
