Singapore’s per capita income is higher than the States It’s $64000 while it’s $53000 in America, so technically the average Singapore resident are richer than their American counterparts
@edukid19844 жыл бұрын
It's not just a matter of per capita income. The working class Singaporeans' quality of life is vastly superior to their counterparts in the States, especially once cost of healthcare and housing are considered. Many Singaporean citizens earning less than 40k USD a year can still afford to own subsidized housing (good quality apartments with excellent maintenance and amenities relative to public housing in the West) while raising a family with 2 kids, as long as they keep to a modest spending pattern and don't clamor for private cars (which are deliberately made exorbitant by the government to curb road congestion). If both parents work their children qualify for subsidized childcare and early ed, and the public schools here are generally better too.

This is like a summary of how Asian families are like when you join them for dinner: 1) they will force you to eat, no way around it, 2) you have to eat a lot, they will keep nagging you about it, 3) they'll ask what you do for a living, and base their impression of you from that, 4) they'll try to set you up with a family member/relative, 5) they will openly criticize a family member in front of you and say that person should be more like you. It's super amazing though. Really fun. Just make sure they don't learn anything about you that is either embarrassing or funny because oh boy, they will tease you to no end.

Ken Jeong and Awkwafina's Character surname is "Goh". Now "Goh" is actually the same surname as "Wu"- Constance Wu's surname. Just that one is the romanization from China, and the other is the romanization by the British (As Singapore and Malaysia were under the British). Hence, all the "Wus" in Singapore will have the surname "Goh"

Well you're right about Goh and Wu being the same surname. But Goh and Wu has nothing to do with British and China romanisations. The surname we're talking about is commonly pronounced as Wu within Mandarin Chinese, whilst within another variant of Chinese, Hokkien Chinese (the major Chinese dialect group within Singapore) is pronounced as Goh. Incidently, the Wu surname that is pronounced in Mandarin, is pronounced as Ng in both Cantonese and Hakka variants of Chinese.
