oh I thought of an idea for those of us that like the heater outside (?) [yeah its a choice] we dont camp a lot Asimple fold down shelf [it only needs to hold the heater so light weght is fine. on a van(?) just put it on the rear door. on my wagon Id put it on the rear door & just fold it up when not in use. I like your idea of putting the warm air vent thru the back window {ez n simple} also ez to remove when not needed. :) for those that are concerned about a quick escape(?) the folding shelf works good for that too. [just strap the heater on it] ez escape & remove it down the road. (in a safe spot) all the exhaust and potential disel odor is outside. :)

very nicly done. for the vent pipe, many have used a dryer hose. my "thought" would be to try an insulaated hose. those should work well. there are options to install them in campers instead of the case the heater comes in. If I was to use mine in a van/camper I see there are various ways to install it in the van. mine I use to warm up the dozer - so yeah I like the case and just carry it to where it is needed. Ive camped several years & for me havinf the heater outside is just easy & safe for my peace. there are several youtubes that show ppl instlling them inside thier van/camper. it is an option, but Ive worked with disel a few years & it has an odor.

You are right, putting inside a van might work but have to live with the odor.

use aluminum heating tape to hold pipe in place. Hope this helps

Thanks for suggestion, it will work for permanent install. But I want it to be quick release though.

are there any ways to install the whole unit inside the van instead of outside? my concern is if I need to take off because of dangerous situation, i can just start the car, and take off immediately without putting it back

I wish there is an easy way to do it but I haven't come across this method. Minivan just too small to effectively install inside the van without safety concern. A heated blanket may be your best bet in situation that you want to take off asap.

If you point the muffler up under certain conditions the exhaust pipe can fill with condensation from combustion and cause the unit to smoke. It will also use more fuel trying to displace the water. I have the same portable unit you're reviewing. I use it for home emergency heat. I'm satisfied with its performance my only complaint is that the case screws can easily strip out of the plastic body. I had to replace two with fatter screws.

Failed to demonstrate storage of heater and additional fuel during travel and diesel odor and spillage.

For weekend camping, one full tank should be more than enough. I don't think I will bring extra tank since most gas tanks tend to smell. For storage, I can either put it in my garage under the bed or in the roof box.
