While the launch pad was indeed just a display stand -- there was no way the Joes were going to drag the darn thing around for the jet pack pilot to launch from and land on in the middle of a battle -- I still made good use of it. Specifically of the control panel, using it as a computer work station for Breaker to use at whatever base camp they'd established in preparation for their missions. Just an accessory, but a useful one to me.

In England the jumpjet pack was originally included with the Action Force Q force (the aqua team) deep sea diver figure Leviathan (who was the head guy of that faction and was supposed to be his oxygen tank. The hose was connected with a very basic weapon that was supposed to be a harpoon but was just a reuse of the radio antenna used for various vehicles. It had a back peg but you couldn't plug it into the figures at the time as few of them were O ring figures with the back holes and was used instead for something else the use of which eludes me now and was simply held onto the figure with a rubber band. It was in red instead of olive green and I used it as a jump jet pack for Scrap Iron (although he was never credited as ever using this accessory, but the colour and the look did suit him. This was later replaced when Cobra had their own jumpjet pack the trouble bubble.

Yes, this is an old video however I enjoy watching where you began. I have a slight confession to make. I have been influenced by you in a good way,lol, ...I have acquired most of the figures and vehicles I had from 82-86, 87 I had some of 87 line up..groan. I tended to go for the green, the camo figures etc yet I did have blowtorch and airtight . This guy? Who wouldn't love the silver? the silver rocks indeed sir.but yeah there is no toy that rocks quite like gijoe. I've played with other brands and articulation types but man. Hasbro was pretty great in the 80s. I remember helping my stepmom pick this out for my cousin Sal along with the FLAK . I was like there's two grand slams? Lol

I think the launchpad/console bits kind of add to the "real world" feel to what's otherwise a fairly "out there" concept. It conveys the idea that there are actual mechanics to how this piece of equipment works. The only thing it really needs is some kind of blast shield to prevent the exhaust from burning the operator's legs.

Legs are not supposed to be adjustable. Those notches are to lock the leg piece onto the platform, so they do not fall off when you pick it up.

I seen one that had a separate computer like console with an antenna, but I have never seen one with Jump jet pack either by itself or with Grand Slam. Was it an extra accessory that someone used to elevate the price on Ebay or did it come with one?

I never noticed that the jump was sold figless in 82. thinking about it, it would have rocked if the console was smaller and was sold cheaper. one could have bought many to have multiple joes flying to attack. the included laser gun was quite awkward to install and keep in the figs s hands. a hq with many jumps nearby must look pretty good.

In Britain, this figure was marketed as Flash instead of rand Slam !not sure of the reasons why they changed it
