Don't let this distract you from the fact that In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A- Team. I realize this is completely random, it just felt right. Thanks for the share Commander! Oh, off topic sure but did you ever collect the A Team action figures? I did for a short period of time. Fun memories.

I had three of these, I kept asking my mom for them because I loved stationing them in my room on shelves to create COBRA defensive battle stations for my Joes to attack.

The A.S.P. is the basis for my favorite moment ever. I had sent away for it in the spring of '85 using FLAG Points and had it sent to my Grandma's house since we were in the middle of finding a house. She called on a day in August and told me it had came in, so I went over to her house to get it and visit with her (I was 9 at the time). While I was sitting at the dining room table putting it together, the phone rang and my grandma answered it. She was sitting at the table talking to me at the time so I heard everything.

another Great review by HCC788 and Daughter, The Cobra A.S.P. Was featured in the Sunbow Series "Rockets Red Glare" where Roadblock & Recondo are on 3 Weeks leave and decide to go down the coast and stop at Marvin's (Roadblock's) aunt & uncle Red Rocket drive in.

Thank you for this review. Back in the early 90s when I was collecting this series I never got hold of either the original or the python patrol version.

Great review, and great bit at the beginning. My cousin had one of these I really wanted one, but never found it in my small town. As an adult I figured the asp served a similar role as the German 88 flak guns in WWII.

The acronym should have been Artillery Support Pod A.S.P.

I had Asp-irations for this vehicle/weapon, so I bought one 2 weeks ago. You looked ex-asp-irated from making this review. Great job

A.S.P is easily my favorite towed weapon from entire vintage G.I Joe line but then again I have never been huge fan of those so it kinda wins by default.

I used to raise the pod up, open the canopy and pretend it was a robot of sorts. With the canopy being the head. In that position, the pod even fills out to resemble a cobra hood. It was a little extra play value in a mostly stationary toy.

Was always one I wanted in the old days but never had. I have a few now. The tight fit for the figure is the drawback but it is always a favorite for me with the early Cobra color schemes. The dark blue always reminded me of the old LAPD dark blue they would paint non patrol cars in back then like the battering ram and other specialized vehicles. Some of the last vehicles in that scheme wear a deal now "Ol Blue" for nostalgia. I actually have Torch in the ASP on my desk and he fits better than any other figure I have tried in it. Could easily imagine an ASP under two by a Thunder Machine! Check out the color mash up with Torch in there!

Great, great job!!!!! I liked the ASP. It seems after early 80s, Hasbro abandoned towed weapon systems. It is a hard sell. Kids love figures, they love vehicles, so to include a figure with a vehicle...instant buy! The MMS included a figure, the HAL included a figure, and the JUMP included a figure. Sure, Hawk was just a reuse of parts/repaint/recast, as was Grand Slam. It would have been cool if Hasbro included a Stinger Driver, but in Cobra blue to use the ASP. This character could have been a passenger in Stinger, or even an alternate driver. It seems in '82 and '83, Hasbro put 110% into the line. There were store exclusives from one of the largest catalog retailers at the time. Then, in '84 and '85, the line was excellent, but Hasbro release different types of vehicles/platforms to test the waters, including the epitome of playsets. In '86 and '87, the line was still going strong, but there starts to be a shift. There were no longer any towed platforms, at all, yet vehicles still had tow hooks.
