I always like deep six he was one of my favorite figures I had as a kid. I think the suit works well for what he does as his specialty plus being inside the vehicle he doesn't really need articulation. To me this is a top-tier figure.

The SHARC was bad ass. I remember always thinking it was unbeatable when I saw it in the series. I think it was a GIJoe version of the USS Defiant from Star Trek DS9 (or vice versa)

There is actually a sci-fi book set in the near future where the U.S. took a old Soviet typhoon missile sub, refit it to carry small submarine fighters that used a laser system and sonar system to create a computer generated imagery in the cockpit. They were equipped with rocket torpedoes. Cool books.

I liked the sharc, played with it a lot. But the only time I'd play with deep six was during bath time. He couldn't hold guns so he never joined any land battles and other than when in water I preferred other joes piloting the sharc. I tried my best to make it a 2seater but at that age my skills were limited lol

I'm glad that you finally got to this. The Sharc is one vehicle I am chasing after. As for Deep Six' s personality, I would definitely say he is introverted. He likes people in small doses, the Autistic aspect, is quite interesting, maybe borderline?

I got the S.H.A.R.C. when I was nine years old. I was making money mowing the lawn for the pizza King in my town. Was great til some idiot threatened to report the restaurant owner for daring to pay a nine year old to mow his lawn. Funny how it was O.K. for a little old lady to pay a nine year old to mow, but a small business was beyond the pale. I couldn't see the difference then, I can't see it today 39 years later.

As well as liking the Crimson twins / Crimson Guard commanders (Tomax and Xamot), I do like the 1985 versions of the Crimson Guards (merely called 'Crimson Guards'), and the (early) 1991 versions (renamed 'Crimson Guard Immortals'), all the Dreadnoks from late 1984 to 1989 (as well as Gnawgahyde, I'm a fan of Buzzer, Ripper, Torch - who I've made up two different faces, as well as outfits, for, Zartan - the leader, Monkeywrench, Zandar, Zarana, Zanzibar and Road Pig; no matter what face Torch has, as well as what outfit he wears, his gimmick is still his obsession with fire, hence his code name) [the only Dreadnok I don't like is Thrasher], and all the Iron Grenadiers from 1988 to 1990 (as well as the leader - the 1988 version of Destro - I do like the 1988 characters of exactly the same code name as said team - 'Iron Grenadiers', as well as Voltar, the Ferrets, the Nullifiers, the Annihilators, the T.A.R.G.A.T.s, Darklon, the Wild Boars, Metal-Head and the Undertows). Yes, I *am* a fan of 1987's Cobra drivers the Sea Slugs (as well as the early 1991 character Red Star, who's a member of the 'Oktober Guard'). It's possible that Psyche-Out and Outback had UK exclusive Tiger Force repaints as these two characters were to replace some of the members who were only available in the States, owing to poor sales there (like Bazooka, Dusty and Flint). On top of that, I think I finally found out, at some stage, why Hasbro never released the Tiger Force repaints of Ripcord, Wild Bill (who was to have been one of the Tiger Force pilots, boxed exclusively with a vehicle), and Sabretooth (a repaint of 1984's Firefly, but would have been a Joe, not a Cobra) - by late 1988 (the year Tiger Force made its debut in the G.I. Joe Hasbro 3 3/4 toy line), these three figures' moulds were already used in different countries, hence, not only were these three figures never produced, but I think, consequently, they were replaced with the Tiger Force versions of Lifeline and Tripwire (and possibly Roadblock) [apparently, these three Tiger Force figures, and Duke, were the best selling ones, in the States, hence they were released towards the end of the 80s in the UK, and Europe]. I've given my theory why Duke was elected as the Tiger Force leader - after the writers of the 1987 G.I. Joe movie didn't want the viewers to have the same sad experience / outcome of when Optimus Prime died, in the Transformers movie, not only was Duke's 'death' edited, where he merely went into a coma (and came out of his coma by the end of the G.I. Joe movie), but Hasbro making him the Tiger Force leader was to emphasise even more that Duke was alright, even after he got hit, in the movie, by Serpentor's snake javelin. Getting back to what Tiger Force members I like, I'm not a fan of Skystriker (I mean the Tiger Rat pilot), even if he's the only new character in Tiger Force. I'm not surprised, in the UK (and Europe), in 1991, the four new Tiger Force figures (Hit and Run, Tunnel Rat, Blizzard and Sneak Peek), were harder to find (I'm definitely not a fan of *these* Tiger Force figures). Not only am I not a fan of the 'Special Missions - Brazil' set (even though the leader is the only new character), nor am I fan of subsets like 'Marauders' (one of the 1989 teams) or 'Python Patrol' (and especially not the 'Night Force' - either 1988 or 1989). Oh, and the only three figures I like, with 'plastic trees', are the 1994 Lunartix Empire aliens.

The cartoon version of the SHARC was so much better. For one thing, it had SEATS. Whatever Hasbro exec greenlit this should be kicked in the fantail for flubbbing the execution so badly. It needed: -Proper seats in a larger cockpit -Diver's Hatch in the rear bottom (as seen in the aforementioned "Cobra Stops The World") instead of backpegs -Smaller non-gimmicked figure, or having his dive suit be like the Cobra Battle Armor (a clamshell with a figure in it) and make him seperate -No guns on/in/up the engines -Slightly larger overall size

Re-watching this review I was reminded that we never really did get a true, traditional submarine in the original ARAH line. I'd have loved to have a sub in the same spirit as the FLAGG aka more of a playset than a vehicle.

I loved the SHARC! Great review! The outfit Deep Six was wearing in the comics was a traditional sailor outfit when at sea. The "Gilligan" hat is normally worn brim up all around. The Navy already had ball caps for specific commands in mid 1980s. On subs the sweaters were a dark brown and highly coveted. I agree with you! The outfit could have opened, at the sides, separated, and by molding a plastic channel design into the halves, it would have sealed tight enough. Have the comic appearance inside the suit, sans dixie cup cover. Hasbro, in the same year, should have offered a carded Deep Six as a traditional deep sea diver, akin to Men of Honor. Removable helmet without the weird collar from version. 2. Just my two cents. Gonna sit back and eat a chocolate covered donut and drink some grape yojo soda!

The one thing that always bothered me about the SHARC was the fact that the cockpit had no seating in it. I fell in love with the vehicle as a kid after seeing it piloted by Torpedo in "The Revenge of Cobra"; I was throughly disappointed when I got the vehicle for X-Mas that year and you got (a) a Deep-Six figure that had almost zero articulation, and (b) no seat in the cockpit. I actually wound up solving that issue recently: I took the seat from a parts-only Skyhawk, shaved down the sides a little bit, and wedged it into the back of the SHARC's cockpit. As it is, like HCC788 I prefer Deep-Six v.2 over the original, so now he can sit up right in the SHARC cockpit with the added bonus of having a control stick in his left hand so it looks like he's actually piloting the SHARC. Works pretty well considering it's sort of a jury-rigged "solution", and less bulky figures like Torpedo and Shipwreck fit slightly better.

i think ur being a lil hard on this one, sure deep six had no articulation..but at the same time he was appropriate for his role and i do remember his pump working rather well at the time...his design actually is forgivable and does invoke real world examples. as for the sharc...for a smaller joe craft...one of the better examples. i simply liked the design and concept as a kid. Overall this was a coveted toy among my peers at the time. Was it the best joe/vehicle? no..not by a long shot but definitely should be considered in top tier lists, even tho it should be rather low on those lists!!!!

Oh, and another subset I don't like any of the members - 1992's DEF (Drug Elimination Force) [as well as that year's 'Evil Headhunters']. I'm aware I might like Unicron, but I'm not a fan of that monster the Headman. I only like *one* member of 1990's 'Sky Patrol' - Static Line, and, as for 'Tiger Force', the only four members I like (official members, from late 1988) are Lifeline, Roadblock, Duke (the leader) and Tripwire (as well as two members who were only Tiger Force members in the UK and Europe - Psyche-Out and Outback) [of course, I additionally like the 1986 version of Lifeline, the 1984 and 1986 versions of Roadblock, the 1987 version of Psyche-Out, the 1983-4 version of Duke, the 1983 version of Tripwire and the 1987 version of Outback]. I do, fortunately, like all seven members of 'Battle Force 2000' - Avalanche, Blaster, Blocker, Knockdown, Dodger and Maverick (as well as the 1989 character - Dee-Jay) [and I like all three of 1987's 'Renegades' - Red Dog, Taurus and Mercer]. As well as two colour schemes I've made up, for Taurus, I do, additionally, like the late 1991 Mercer (the bearded mercenary). I like three versions of Cobra Commander - 1982-3 (the version with dark blue helmet and silver faceplate), the 1987 armoured version, and the late 1991 version (with the gold helmet, red faceplate and dark blue uniform, and looking Imperial), and, as well as liking the Dreadnok Gnawgahyde, I like two versions of Stalker - the 1982 and 1989 versions (and I do like 1987's Falcon) [of course, only that version of him]. It's no wonder 1994 was the last year for the Hasbro 3 3/4 toy line.

I didn't know this came with a figure. This is a vehicle I've always been interested in. I am disappointed to see how the figure lays down in the cockpit, that always drove me crazy on my Sky Havoc. Deep Six's articulation reminds me of those Star Brigade Atmor Tech figures.

The possible highlight of (this version of Deep-Six; the only other version I like is his 1989 outfit) being poorly articulated is it forces you to leave him alone (as a nod to his 'loner' nature). *That's* possibly why Hasbro made him not so articulated.

@shermanvermin76

*Especially* the latter (I'd much rather have the three Cobra La figures - the Royal Guards and the two individuals - Nemesis Enforcer and the leader - Golobulus). What were Hasbro even *thinking*, by 1994 (series 13 - the last year of the Hasbro 3 3/4 run of the toy line), with this 'Ice Cream Soldier'? (especially when you think of the preposterous code name) The only three 1994 figures I like (and yes, literally only three I like, from that year) are the three Star Brigade 'Lunartix Empire' aliens - Carcass, Lobotomaxx and Predacon. I don't like any of the 1993 - 94 'Battle Corps' characters (likewise, the, again, literally only three figures I like, from 1993, are the Red Ninjas, from the second and last wave of the 'Ninja Force' subset - who are boxed with the Cobra 'Battle Ax' vehicles, and the two 'Mega Monsters', from the 'Mega Marines' subset - the Bio-Vipers and the Monstro-Vipers). Additionally, I like no characters from the last 'regular carded assortment', in 1992 (where my only few favourite 1992 characters are four members of the first wave of the 'Ninja Force' subset - T'jbang, Dojo, Slice and Dice, one of the two Battle Copter pilots - the Heli-Vipers, and one of the characters from the second and last wave of the 'Eco Warriors' subset - the Toxo-Zombies). The only two members I like (both released late 1991, thus considered as 1992 releases) of the Super Sonic Fighters (and I mean the 'Super' Sonic Fighters - those with red cards, and having sound and light producing backpacks) and Talking Battle Commanders are Major Bludd (dark blue and yellow uniform, and retaining the black moustache) and Overkill (who's even the only new character in the 'Talking Battle Commanders' subset). BTW, I don't like any of the characters from the 'Sonic Fighters' (those with green cards, and having merely sound producing backpacks). Of course, I do like the *first* version of Major Bludd (released 1983 - brown outfit and black moustache) and only one character in the first wave of the 'Air Commandos' subset - the Night Vultures (as for the first wave of the 'Eco Warriors' subset, in 1991, the only character I like is Cesspool). I do like the first two versions of Destro - 1983 (silver faceplate) [and is virtually the tallest figure in Hasbro's 3 3/4 G.I. Joe toy line] and 1988 (Iron Grenadiers leader, and gold faceplate). The three 'Lunartix Empire' aliens are even the only 'Star Brigade' characters I like (of course, the two 'Mega Monsters' are literally the only two characters I like, from 1993's 'Mega Marines' subset) [and the Night Vultures are the only characters I like from the 'Air Commandos' subset, and the Heli-Vipers are the only characters I like with 'Battle Copters'; needless to say, Cesspool and the Toxo-Zombies are literally my only two favourite 'Eco Warriors' characters]. Oh, and these five characters - T'jbang, Dojo, Slice, Dice and the Red Ninjas are my only five favourites from the 'Ninja Force' subset (and I prefer both waves of the 1992-93 'Ninja Force' subset, to 1994's 'Shadow Ninjas' subset, as, of course, there's no one I like from the 'Shadow Ninjas', especially as I've already said who my only three favourite 1994 characters are). I definitely only like the 1992 version of Slice, wearing red (same as I undoubtedly only like the 1987 'Battle Force 2000' version of Dodger).

This SHARC returns as lone submarine in many sub teams of Joes . Personally I like Deep Six from 89 It was my second driver that I had in my collection in past . This submarine could be better without pop up guns , maybe they should make longer wings & install guns inside like in P 51 Fighter . And finely if this a recon craft he doesn't need so much guns ...

Yeah. True. After making the first few waves of 25th Joes, They started recycling parts. I know there were some Vintage Joes that shared parts, but Hasbro brought it to the next level in laziness, thus more parts sharing. Even if their vintage counter-parts din't share the parts used. :/ They do worst with the Current Transformers Classics lines.

We never got it here in the UK and I can see why. It looks cheap and crappy. However, we did get the second version of Deep Six. Even though the vehicle still looks crappy, it would've been improved considerably if they'd has the second version of Deep Six with it. And you're right, I never understood weapons that appear from engines, or having see through canopies that the occupants can't use.

I had a SHARC back in the day, but I could never get the bellows to make Deep-Six submerge much less pop up in water.

In KZbin, search GI Zoo and wait for the end. (It's a little gross, but funny) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZqlYmtvoZedpqs The holes in the feet are for the pump feature. To make him sink, the pump would pump water through the feet and into the fugue. To float you would have to reverse the valve and it would pump the water out of the figure. It was really cool especially playing in a pool with your Joes. Also, the shark did come with styrofoam blocks that were supposed to be attached to the thin white slits on the bottom, thus making it float. Thanks for doing this review. As a kid I really hated Deep Six unless I was in the pool, but now I can appreciate his uniqueness.

I liked the design of the SHARK, not so much deep six. There were a few other redesigns of the SHARK but they were later

as usual, I agree with your view. without the 2 styrofoam pieces, it would go straight to the bottom... I rarely used the sharc because of those flaws. good show!!!

Deep Six with a diving suit like the Snake armor, now that is a much better idea than what they came up with.

I don't know if it would have worked, but it was worth a try. At least then we could have a Deep Six figure free from his egg shell.

An early example of Hasbro choosing a gimmick over good design. I feel like the cartoon used the Sharc a lot.

Unfortunately, a low tier vehicle and a low tier figure. I never understood the love. On the bright side, there was no O-ring to replace!
