Indeed they did, I am so glad that I got Low Light when I got back into collecting G.I. Joe action figures. As HCC 788 mentions, he has some great details in his sculpt and some great accessories as well. I do find it strange that his Uzi pegs into his right leg. It seems like that slot would fit a rifle scope or another accessory better. I am glad that his modern sculpt version has a rifle scope that you can store on his right leg, along with a break down sniper rifle and an opening backpack.

Low-Light is definitely one of my favorite Joes. I remember the episode of him having nightmares in junkyard fighting off rat cars, they made Low-Lights dad a little more menacing, scolding his fear of the dark, in the toon. Again, I like the darker Joe episodes, that aside, Low-Light just has that COOL factor as a badass, and agreed his old figure holds up remarkably well...blonde wavey hair n all.

@@HCC788Too bad because that was in my top 5 episodes off time. Yeah the idea of Mindbender plaguing the dreams had to be inspired by Freddy Kruger, but getting that far into a character like Low Light was beautiful and it was written by the legend Marv Wolfman. I also think besides Night Force Low Light would have been perfect in the D.E.F. which was the one sub-team I loved.

I liked that episode yes it was a bit sci-fi/fantasy than what we would usually expect from G.I. Joe but getting more into Low-Life's personal life is great.When the character first appeared he seemed to have a bit of an angry disposition but this episode made me better understand his character the episode made me cry when I was young in part that scene when he starts shooting down the nightmare creatures and yelling for his father's approval.

Watching this one again, still have my '86 Low Light. I always read/heard that snipers would carry a backup weapon like a pistol or submachine pistol in case they were found & needed to use something a little more close-quarter than a rifle would allow.

Hey HCC I was watching and I think I've an answer re:the Uzi question. In real world situations, troops like Low Light from time to time have to get involved in CQ situations, close quarters and his sniper's rifle wouldn't work in a small room as opposed to two football fields away

I would argue Scarlet was the team's first sniper - her file card said she went to USMC sniper school and was the only joe to be qualified on the Remington 700 sniper rifle. Happy you reviewed LowLight - he's still a childhood favorite for me!
@HCC788
@HCC788 8 жыл бұрын
That's a very good point. I forgot about Scarlett's sniper training. It's not obvious looking at the figure, since she never came with any form a sniper rifle (or any form of rifle). She did have the shoulder pad like Low-Light, though.

Me too, although it does look a little strange when you store it there. I think that originally it was suppose to hold a rifle scope or something else before Hasbro changed their minds and choose not to include it. Still it does not take away anything from the action figure.

Unfortunately, even with careful opening, the card contents on the outside edge are usually ripped off. For some reason, not many websites list the contents, and even when they take photos of the carded figures, they don't zoom in on the contents list. That makes it a little tricky to find the contents list so I can cover it in the reviews.

I seem to recall as a kid in the 80's that I would sometimes attach the top of the Uzi into the clip on Lowlights left leg. This might help to better explain the hoops on to of his Uzi. Really enjoy your reviews! It's great fun to reminisce about all the Joes and vehicles that I had as a kid. I probably had just about all of them (figures, vehicles and related Marvel comics) throughout the 80's and early 90's. I remember using large fishing tackle boxes to store all the figures and weapons. The slots in the tackle boxes were a natural fit for the figures. After watching your channel I'm tempted to dig through my folks basement a resurrect some of those vintage toys. Thanks!

Low Light was my last Joe I got as a kid. Being a new teenager, playing with G.I.Joes was frowned down upon, but I really wanted this guy. What a great figure and I though, back then, that the G.I.Joes would just keep getting better and better. Now I know that there was a lot of mis-fires after 1986. Really enjoying your channel. Thanks for your efforts.

I had no idea who this figure/character Low-Light (v1) was, but the card art on the store shelf sold me on him back in the day. He reminded me of Firefly a bit. He's one of the few figures I still have from my childhood collection. His later character alone was the only reason I got interested in the DIC cartoon.

I don't know why most people prefer removable helmets, I much prefer them molded in. Removable helmets always look weird, like 86's hawk or they require weird collars to hold them in place, or they are too tight and ruin the head paint, or they have weird ass giant visors. Molded helmets look just right for the most part.

It is not uncommon for snipers to be packing a submachine gun as a sidearm in case they have to deal with enemy who have gotten close to their position. During the Vietnam War, USMC snipers would be armed with a Remington M40, and maybe a grease gun for close in work. Personally, the Uzi if full-size, may be a bit too heavy if I were the sniper, and I'd have opted for a pistol like say a 1911.

To a degree yes, even thought we still got some nice figures like Falcon and Shockwave in the post 1986 line up. Also some of the later figures just needed better colors and better accessories for fan to embrace them. Hasbro reused the body of Mace version 1 from 1993 to make a new version of Clutch( when they were making the comic book sets which included three action figures) and it looks really good in green paint with different arms and a new head.

It is ridiculous how several second versions of figures, like Low-Light's, were so physically different, and ow some late years figures could have perfectly been the second version of early years ones, like 1989 Downtown could have perfectly be named 1989 Short-Fuse and everybody would have liked it.

Very nice review, though I never had a problem with the new look for version 3 Low-Light, as the darker (dyed for practical reasons perhaps?) and face camouflage suited him and his job IMHO. I also liked that version 3 had fully removable headgear. I even head-swapped my version 1 figure because I liked the new head better. Low-Light's Order of Battle miniseries entry represents something of a filecard variation. In that, presumably earlier version, Low-Light was not "lost on a hunting trip" as a child. No, his abusive father set out to cure him of his timidness and fear of the dark by dragging him out to the county dump and leaving him there with a .22 rifle and orders not to come home until he'd killed 20 rats! Clearly, someone at Hasbro felt that this might be a little too dark for a kid's toy line, and asked for it to be changed. But not before Sunbow used that version of his backstory for the episode Nightmare Assault.

The episode "Nightmare Assault," I think... That's where Low-Light was the hero of the day. Mindbender totally screwed up the Joes by invading their dreams. It turned semi-Freddy Krueger... But Low-Light has insomnia, and he won the day... and slept like a baby afterward. It also went deep into his issues with his Father. Anyway, last I checked, the episode is on KZbin..
