Great review Hoody Coco! Gotta say, I never liked the Crossfire and I liked Rumbler even less. Lazy is just the word to use when describing what could've and should've been a unique driver and his battery powered fast-attack vehicle. I mean, this was the ARAH line's first and only RC vehicle, they should've pulled out all the stops on this one.

It’s a cool toy, but in NO way does it look like an AWE STRIKER. It’s got an OK name as is.

I had the Crossfire as a kid. In my teens I beat it to a pulp driving it off ramps. Snapped an repaired the front axel. Broke a gun barrel. I wish I had hung onto the remote when I threw it away. I did save the orange accessories bits... which may help me complete one someday.

I believe there are Alpha and Delta models because they are each on different wavelengths so they can be played with at the same time.
I had the crossfire as a kid (my mother had a home shopping network obsession) I loved the crossfire, it was indestructible, ran through rain snow huge puddles. Loved it.

I remember seeing this at a local drug store in the overpriced toy department when I was in my early teens. I was in my phase of not having to buy everything Hasbro produced anymore and was glad of it because this thing was ridiculously expensive. Despite getting almost everything from the RAH line eventually, I've never bought one of these. It looks like a neat vehicle.

This was a fun xmas gift I got. It really didn't do well at all on sandy or very rocky terrain. It faired okay on short grass but I got most use out of it in the house and I probably burnt the motors out inside 2 months. Which is when I took some matte black spray and made it pure black for whatever reason, still have it complete sans the controller. I was too young to repair the motor so I tossed the controller. I had a remote tank, with treads, moving turret and this thing would go over anything, it was the one RC vehicle I took care of for a long time until the barrel broke off and the rubber treads snapped. It went slow but it took everything like a champ, it was heavier than hell and I believe it took C cells, but man what it lacked in speed it had in torque.

Another classic video. Thanks. Never heard of this. I had a few RC cars but they never really held my interest for long. I guess they were usually limited in what terrain you could use so always getting stuck or running out of batteries or what have you. We would go through periods of trying rechargeable batteries but it also never stuck.

Another great one! I wonder if the crossfire was designed prior to the rest of the 87 line and delayed. To me 85 was the last year that all the vehicles looked really reasonable. 86 is where things started getting a little strange... and 87 most of the vehicles started getting weird. The crossfire looks more like it was supposed to be with the 85 or 86 line. Its neat and all but I think they would have been better off licensing out a RC toy first, seeing if it did well before investing so heavily into the crossfire which did seem to sell well. Its too bad. I think the crossfire would have done better as normal vehicle without the RC stuff. Rather than an RC car.... I would have suggested an RC tank.. maybe a redesign of the MOBAT or a new tank. It would have screamed GI Joe and had something unique to offer. As an RC car the crossfire not very good compared to other similar cars. Having a tank really designed for rough terrain would have given RC fans not otherwise into GI Joe something to look at.

The gun on the back looks like an old ship mounted anti-aircraft gun. Almost like the vehicle was designed to be a mobile anti-aircraft position. Its too bad its so low to the ground. As a kid I would have wanted to drive that through all kinds of rough terrain. Likely a lot a kids that did get it would have been disappointed when it got stuck on a loose twig.

On a more serious note, I think the "Alpha 27" and "Delta 49" versions are because of the different radio frequencies - R/C cars used to have several different standard frequencies so that if you were using two of them together (for a race, for example), one controller wouldn't interfere with the other. So if you had a friend who owned another Crossfire toy and you wanted to play with them together, you'd have to make sure you had different variants (one Alpha27 and one Delta 49 model) or you'd both be driving both at the same time and fighting for control. More expensive and professional-level R/C cars like the Tamiya racing series had interchangeable radio "crystals" which you could swap out for different controller frequencies when racing, but the lower price-band ones like Nikko which were intended just for kids in their backyard generally didn't, and were hard-wired to a certain frequency and you'd just have to pay attention to which radio band you were buying from a sticker on the box. Radio Shack's budget R/Cs were the same, as I remember, because my Dad had to buy my brother and I two different versions of the same car for Christmas one year as they had red stripes for one frequency and blue stripes for the other. My brother got the red one while I got the blue, and my favourite color was red... but so it goes.

It could have been a good figure, but it was during that time that Hasbro was making some very ugly color choices with stuff like mustard-yellow pants. Since minimal paint was their obvious goal, they should have done the whole thing in dark brown or dark green, then just added a little bit of black and silver.
