I always kind of saw Gung Ho's uniform as extremely sun faded. So it was originally green, but he's just worn it so long that it appears light blue.

It's highly unfortunate that we didn't get this figure in the UK. We only got the later versions. I don't think they got the tattoo wrong because of copyright, because the military isn't a business. Most probably they couldn't get it right because of technology limitations of the time. It's probably light blue he's wearing because it looks like it's supposed to be customised denims.

Great re-review of Gung-Ho. He was one of my early favorites and his color scheme really made him stand out against the green of the original Joes. Part of my early love was issue 11 was the first issue I ever got from the newsstand, which makes me feel really old, and he was almost always played a part in those issues from 83-85. I think he was one of the characters Hama enjoyed writing dialogue for. The example from your video is one of my favorite scenes and always makes me smile. I think he and Roadblock had kind of a friendly rivalry has the two biggest and baddest on the team.

Issue #11 is a great one to jump in-- it introduces almost everyone from 1983, and still manages to get the 1982 characters in there, too. As always, Sean, Thank you for your support.

Gung Ho's camo pattern colors are fairly close to the paint scheme the Corps was using on helos during the mid 80's when I was in. A light grey, bordering on pale blue, with green splotches and just a bit of black bordering the green. I always figured that's where they drew the inspiration from for his colors.

Sensational review! I struggled for a long time concerning who I liked best: Gung-Ho or Recondo. I never had any problem with his light blue color; Gung-Ho won! Also, I actually did the backwards mirror tattoo thing when I was 16 or so. Fortunately, it was only my initials!

That's a pretty cool figure. It is unique, in that it wasn't really intended for combat. It was made to honor the Corps. I look forward to reviewing that one someday.

Oh man, I have no idea where to start. Your Chris Farley impersonation is fantastic. I hope you will be able to get your tattoo fixed by a professional. Is Audrey like Sneak Peak, always sneaking into your videos? Maybe in the next video she can sneak into the Stinger. Gung-Ho was a very popular character and I never had the version one as a kid. As an adult going back to fill in my collection, he was one of the first I bought. I had his dress blues version and I liked it a lot, but it just wasn't fight worthy. You are right about the color, although baby blue is nice, it's not military enough.

Turquoise BDU: occassionally, after many, many washes and exposure to sun, BDU's could turn into a turquoise color giving the appearance of "saltyness". EGA: Eagle, Globe & Anchor. Attachment to rifle: in Boot Camp it is significantly impressed that your rifle is your best friend. Airborne schools: military schools are shared training. To be airborne qualified you need to go to the army's school. Same with sniper, SERES and many others. Not sure about Hasbro's intent, though,with color.

I love Gung Ho V1, but never had it. One of the last Joes I got back in the day was V3 and I hated it. Not sure what it was but I never liked V3. He was eventually disassembled for repairs with his arms going to Quick Kick and Legs going to Duke V3.

The artist for G.I. Joe cards and packaging at the time was Hector Garrido. He is responsible for the great realistic images we got on the file cards and vehicle boxes. At some point, I don't know when, they transitioned to different artists.
