Congrats on the 2000 Subscribers. I played with GI Joe as a kid, and although I do not collect GI. Joe's now, and I do not intend to, I enjoy watching your videos and look forward to seeing you post every week. I enjoy the nostalgic look at my childhood and I enjoy seeing you what happened to GI Joe after I was "out of GI Joe" around 1987. Thank you for helping me remember my childhood.

Not everyone wants to jump into the collecting game. I hope my videos give you a close look at the toys, and make you feel like you've been able to pick them up and check them out. Maybe we can relive some nice childhood memories. Thanks for sticking around!

Another great review - I agree too with the fitting 3rd party (and how much better the Grenadiers are than other additions to the line). I'm amazed that you, Retroblasting, JoeADay, and others have such detailed memories of when you ended buying Joes as kids - I would have been 11 in 1988 and I think moved out of toys but I remember having the second Storm Shadow, and knowing/having Shockwave, Roadpig and few others - but for the life of me cannot remember anything about Iron Grenadiers (or Battleforce 2000 or Night Force, etc.). So strange. Congrats on the well deserved 2000 - keep up the great mix and hard work. I appreciate how you bring nerdom, memory, and commentary together with the respect, passion and attention to detail for something you and we love. As I mentioned before, you got into the hobby for release/stress release and I find the same in your videos - so blessings. One thought - Could you interact with the card art and help show the relationships/differences between the figure and the art. Were these prototypes? Accessories on legs, etc. seem flip-flopped or different as do colors (just missing paint aps?) - like this Grenadier whose art seemed more blueish (but not in the comic-book way). Just a thought/request. God bless you and Oklahoma!
@HCC7888 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do try to compare the figure with the card art when I think there is an important difference. One example is Sgt. Slaughter v3, where he appears to have Tunnel Rat's chest. I confess, my childhood memories are as fuzzy as anyone else's. There is a lot that I don't remember. I just don't talk about those parts! I just focus on the bits I can remember :)

As a fan of the vintage GIJOE comic books, I always appreciate how you incorporate pertinent elements from the comics into your figure reviews. While it's certainly no substitute for synchronized synth-pop dance parties, it is nonetheless a sign of quality work and attention to detail.

Hi HCC788, Congrats for your great work at HCC788 and for diversify it by making it more familiar and reachable to wider public. That is something to appreciate and something that I am starting to enjoy from t withime to time my girlfriend who is not particularly attracted by toys collections, but she enjoys the videos :) Regarding further Iron Grenadiers reviews you might do, and knowing you like history and sociology, I wanted to drop a curious idea I realized about one Iron Greneadiers figure: the 1988 Voltar. If you have a abstract look to the figure you can see the concept of a 15th or 16th century Spanish Conquistador in it. His dark haired phenotype, the bear and the shape of the helmet must have been definitely inspired by that. The gold also evokes the metallic armors the Conquistadors where wearing in that age and also the golden shiny Catholic objects many times they were carrying. Actually adding him one of the many swords of the Iron Grenadiers line would have made this even more obvious...!! Thinking about him in that way gives him extra attraction as a brave and determined solder or knight (Robert DeNiro in 1986 'The Mission'...?, Hugh Jackman in 2006 'The Fountain'? Maybe you share the same opinion I had of 1988 Voltar when being a kid: I was seeing very often this figure in the toy sores shelves, believing in being sure why it was always there in big numbers and not being easily sold. It was, to me, just looking wrong, the fuchsia scheme, me not being familiar with what the idea of the Iron Grenadiers was and, at the same time, me having a big love and nostalgia for the classic 1982-86 characters was making me not want this guy in my collection, at all...! My opinion of him has been slowly changing in the last 2 or 3 years (yes, it took so long...!!!!!) :O I started to like him due to appreciating more concept of the Iron Grenadiers (that didn't took so long....), he is, in the end, the general...! Having any figure in your hands makes always an ultimate difference to start liking it more. I don't really love it, but it improved so much... And the Spanish Conquistador evocation in it makes a big deal on that.
@HCC7887 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for this thorough and thoughtful comment. I hand't thought of that angle for Voltar. I haven't reviewed Voltar yet, but I will try to keep this in mind when I get to him!

I would put the sword around the right arm with the strap forward and the peg the small loop on the outer part of the sword sheath on the waist hook. It give it a bit of a formal at-attention look.

Battle Force 2000 crashed and burned because it was ill conceived and executed. It should've included preexisting Joes whose gear already had hi-tech/sci-fi potential or needed such upgrades, like BREAKER, FLASH(!) & ZAP. And it needed better vehicles; the "future fortress was just damn silly. Regardless, it was no reason to discontinue the great Iron Grendier line. IMO folding them back into Cobra was a huge mistake and an example of how biases from Hasbro ultimately hurt the franchise.

Love my Iron Grenadiers just so cool looking and the Uzi this was a very cool one thanks for getting the energy flowing on this one. I had never seen nor thought of the sword hook as a pistol holster, I sometimes have them hold the sword pointed down in ceremonial kind of use. Now for some reason in the scope of military history the helmet reminds me of an early helmet the SA used called a NSKK Helmet and is worth checking into. That might make a historic tie in and comparison to Cobra and Iron Grenadiers to the interal rise of Nazi Germany. Destro was the money and muscle-man who funded the formation of Cobras military might through MARS that would become IG but would go against Cobra at one point. Almost alike to Herman Goering and the SA that would come to be eliminated by the SS. In a sense Cobra could be looked at as the SS and IG as SA in that comparison. Not at all trying to glorify those organizations just noting the military details of them. On the orig IG the gold wears off way quickly even more so than the dreaded silver paint over the years. Also there was s very nice remake of the IG made almost identical to the 1988 version and was such a fun thing to find when it came out.
@HCC7888 жыл бұрын
In an earlier review of Destrop I pointed out the similarity between Cobra/Destro and early-Twentieth Century European fascists. I think it's a fair comparison, but the idea that a children's toy line would allude to the Nazi can make people uncomfortable nowadays. Full credit to FormBX257 for pointing out the pistol holster thing!

Love the iron grenadier they were best army in my opinion... the only personal destro army who appeared in dic series are Metal-head the iron gredanier and undertow the sea trooper

The Iron Grenadiers are my favorite troops to troop build. However I'm a more modern collector and missed out on a lot of comic book knowledge. Do you know any other way the Iron Grenadiers proved to be as lethal as GI.JOE? Like battles where this or that happened, ect? Great review by the way, very fascinating!
@ronn-ammon89754 жыл бұрын
Diamondsandgold : Even though your inquiry was unanswered, It's been four years, you may already know this stuff, but on the small chance you're still wondering: In Marvel Comics, during the Cobra Island Civil War, where Destro was drinking tea and having hot meals prepared for his forces; Iron Grenadiers forced both the Joes and Cobras into retreat, seizing territory on Cobra island, until Destro freed the Baroness from Serpentor's forces. A Crimson Guardsman posing as Cobra Commander attacked Destro's castle with H.I.S.S. tanks. In a counterattack of D.E.M.O.N.s engineered by Voltar; I.G.s outmaneuvered the pseudo-Cobra Commanders invasion force, forcing him to accept Destro's terms. I.G.s wiped out (seriously injured or killed?) most of the original October Guard to the point that many thought it was the end of the Guard.

Also funny how outside the US and Canda there were no Iron Grenadiers and the subset was completely ignored! I picked up some European carded figures and the Iron Grenadier has a Cobra logo on it. Yet interestingly the Dreadnoks had a funky logo of their own on European cards not the simple THE ENEMY used here. Fun stuff as the initial IG's are a truly favorite moment for me.

Lol the sword was seramonial but at least they should have sheathed and unsheated his assesories kind of sucked no offence he looks cool
@daniel79tj5 жыл бұрын
I think is actually a portable machine and and not a uzi, as you mention before the weapon from the IG are futuristic and not realistic (Destro found a way to build hand held machine guns), that would also explain the size difference compared with the UZI .
