Deep Six v2 is an underrated figure. His colors are a bit weird, but I suppose aqua/seafoam, coral, and seaweed green actually work. That being said, this v2 sculpt in v1 colors is easily in my top 20 (because I haven't made definitive top 10) most wanted o-ring repaints.

I actually loved my Deep 6. We had a pool, so it made for some fun play time. Added a longer hose and it was an underwater adventure.

Great review. He reminds me of the classic G.I.Joe 12" Deep Sea diver outfit. That came with a weighted belt and weights for the boots and you could stand a figure up with them on. The Deep Sea diving suit was one of the things my friends and I wanted as many of us had swimming pools growing up and often would have beach landings etc.

Yes! Awesome, that's what I was trying to recall. Had that helmet kicking around for decades.

I still remember that deep sea diver as a kid but for me he could only go to the great depths of a full bathtub.

I started collecting Joes in 1988. I had some Joes before but I was too young and lost them. This is when I turned 6 and was old enough to take care of my toys. So I collected most of the 88 Joes and I remember one day my uncle brings me a Deep Six and a Night Viper and the concept that every year a new batch of Joes comes out kicked in and I was hyped as hell. And I absolutely LOVED this figure and played with it in my tub.

Custom tip: Take an extra 86 Wet Suit self propellor device and paint it black, then equip your 89 Deep Six with it. Looks killer.

Despite never having V2 deep six, or even seeing him as a kid, he was the first figure I got as an adult collector purely in the basis of how much I like the figure design. I have to agree with everything in this review, it’s just a really nice figure, and I always had a thing for figures with helmets, and deep sea divers.

Great job as always. I was one of those unaware of the new Deep Six version 2. The first version was pretty lame but I will say I remember him being durable. Less moving parts, less to break. Also he worked well with aquariums. Re the Public TV file card reference, I believe Jacques Cousteau's TV show Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau aired on PBS. I think it was originally ABC but got picked up by PBS. I couldn't confirm. I don't remember it but I am sure the Hasbro guys would have remembered it even if most of us kids didn't.

1989 was a great year for G.I. joe... The returns of Stalker, Rock & Roll, Deep Six, Short-Fuze (Downtown), Zap, (BackBlast) y Wild Bill (Dog Fight)

I don't recall if I had any version of Deep Six as a kid, but I remember loving the character just because deep sea diving is awesome. I also remember almost getting in trouble with my folks at the beach when I started talking about Deep Six and they thought they heard an "e" instead of an "i" in that final vowel.

For whatever reason deepsea divers were super popular with us kids in the '70s. Specifically with the bronze helmets. Thats why had this one been around when I was a kid I would have bought him in a heartbeat. Its shaped perfectly (just needs a copper/bronze paint job on the helmet. shame the orange wasnt at least colored like the neck ring. so close to being perfect.) The 1st version, not so much. It always looked like a complete different (younger age group) toy line; like a Fischer Price Adventure People piece or something.

I never understood the complaints about V1 Deep Six being "unarticulated." He's in an Atmospheric Diving Suit, which is essentially a human-shaped submersible. Many types of Atmospheric Diving Suits have unarticulated legs because it's difficult to design a joint that allows movement while still being able to withstand the pressures involved in deep sea diving. The legs of Deep Six's ADS are there basically because he has to have a place to put his legs. They aren't for movement. Now, of course, the toy was designed like it was for the air pump gimmick, but the lack of articulation is easy to explain. Deep Six V1 isn't supposed to jump out of the SHARC and sprint after Cobra.

I always liked the original Deep six but I've always liked big chunky figures better than small ones the fact that he was a vehicle driver meant he really didn't need to have a whole lot of articulation. I had deep six as a kid and I thought he was really cool.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the version of Deep Six V3 with the Orca, isn't really a variant, but just exists as a handful of carded samples. I don't think it ever saw an actual release.

I bought this version of Deep Six about 4 years ago, after seeing it in The Ultimate Guide to GI Joe 1982-1994 by Mark Bellomo.I really like that the figure was given a proper diving suit with some nice accessories.Having never bought the version 1 figure,I think this one was the way to go.It blends in better with the Naval aspect, because of the real world look of his suit.Definitely a great upgrade from version 1.

Does anyone have a guess what the most popular public television program was in 1989? In fact, I'm equally curious to know what bottle caps were in vogue back in 1984. It's a little odd that Malcom's second file card added a hyphen to "bottle cap" and "whale songs".

Believe it or not I kind of like the old Deep Six better.... now hold on. I don't care much for the figure, but the look was cooler. If they had dropped the gimmick and given the figure basic articulation, I think people would have liked it better. The sky shark was also an awesome toy that I did not get until the silver Sky Patrol version. My cousin had this version of Deep Six. It was ok. Can't say we got a lot of play time with it. Still a good addition and much better than a lot of the Dic stuff.

This version is actually pretty cool and the best vintage version IMHO. I just don't get why a deep-sea diver would have a scope mounted on a spear gun. Is it a sniper spear-gun? How far do those things actually shoot underwater anyway? How far can someone actually see underwater?
