Night Force Shockwave looks more military like a commando so it is perfect for military operations. The first version is for when he is off-duty and partying like it is 1988 lol

Same here, I did however get the 2004 Night Force set from Toys R Us. While this set was hit and miss with the colors and lack of decent accessories it was not a total waste. The set makes for good custom fodder, and I am glad that Tunnel Rat was included again since he was originally part of Night Force in 1988.

Honestly because of the mask and stuff you could use this figure as an army builder to an extent. Get like 4-6 guys give them different guns and you got a great 80s swat team. Too bad they weren't made more

Happy birthday Brandon! Shockwave rules! He is my all time favorite character in GI Joe. His version 1 uniform is tops, his Night Force uniform is tops. Can I choose between them...their both awesome, but I'll have to go with V1, only because that's the one I had as a kid. Great review as usual, but this one's a bit more great to me, thanks! YO! Awesome review! I find this version a little drab - some camo on the arms and legs or a more pronounced olive green on the vest would elevate the figure for me. I had the original version and the one from DEF - definitely a great character.

Great review once again! My son had all 3 versions, I thought all 3 were great. I have to agree, if Hasbro had painted the straps and knife on his chest black, it would have looked awesome. I think he called the 2nd one Nightwave. Happy Birthday Brandon.

Love That version… fyi that’s the wrong pistol on your version Brian. The grip is different so that pistol is either 90s or another toy line. The grip is the easiest way to match them as they are exactly the same as the blue version.

Another great review of a great character...very tough choice between v1 and v2 but I have to go OG Shockwave I still love the NF version he's great....if only in the 3man mission set they had someone better than Fastdraw without even his mask and made a NF Hit and Run exclusive to that set...oh well....

Thanks for another an excellent review! Shockwave is a great figure! I used him for a building spec ops team that is more geared for urban or air assault combat missions. Most of all, Happy Birthday Brandon Knight!

Hasbro's "exclusive" fuckery that everyone bitches about today - is nothing new. I feel a bit ripped off, simply because of my age - the best of GI Joe, was a couple of years older than me - I didn't really get into GI Joe until I was about 9... So 1987 or so. And by that time, Hasbro was running the new series, but already doing the re-issues. We only had a Walmart, sometimes Target when we went to Denver - but, Toy-R-Us was a special trip, usually when I got good grades and my Mom would take me out for a "Mom and Son" day where she would buy me toys and take me to the bookstores... spending for love, based on achievement... so very Boomer of her. I missed the exclusives, and all the rest. I was mostly into Transformers and Ninja Turtles - GI Joe, by my time, was kind of passe. GI Joe went into the weird from there.

I definitely prefer the Night Force version of this figure. While camouflage would have been great, I was never wild about the digital camo print on the original figure. I think overall it's definitely a big improvement.

I wish they would have recolored a lot more in these colors. Not those Tiger force colors. Some in dessert or jungle cammo. Depending on the figure. They vehicles as well. I would have loved a jungle colored Tomahawk or mauler.
