Anthony is getting better as time rolls on. Can u believe it that he began his career from welter div. Despite losses in the past, he is all exiting fights in his performance.
@kirklandau28263 жыл бұрын
Well, he peaked at 205. He was badly weight drained down at 170, had no business fighting in that division. Not being weight drained and fighting at your proper divisions can do wonders for your performances, especially if you’re a very physical fighter as Rumble is. He got better since then as well, but he’s probably past his peak now, since he retired for several years after his crushing losses to Daniel Cormier

The commentary partly ruined the watching experience. Considering the pace of the fight both fighters showed a lot better cardio than your average UFC HW. They probably both threw +150 strikes in just 3 rounds, and their strikes still looked powerful in the third round. This is really an underrated, great HW fight.

Yeah, Rumble’s proper weight class is LHW. That’s where he has the most power and speed without being too drained. But he’s not quite big enough to be a true HW, although he’s clearly talented enough to beat some good fighters at HW nevertheless
@kirklandau28263 жыл бұрын
Johnson cut wayyy too much weight to try to make 170, it completely detracted from him. He did better when he moved up to 205. Even at 185 he was a bit drained and struggled to make the weight

Watching Arlovski in this fight, his hands were much slower than his opponent the entire fight. Then he got dropped. He got hit with cleaner punches the entire fight. He was fighting Anthony who was much younger, and.. that's a real fighter. He may have lost, but as a person, he endured so much shit in those 20 minutes of hell, fighting heavy handed *heavyweight* Anthony. AJ had so much torque behind those shots.

Broken jaw, which never really came back to 100% and lead to alot of knock out losses down the line. Rumble was a Beast, Potentially the best fighter to live without winning a ufc championship. He Ran through that 205 division better then anyone to date. (jones excluded) but i value rumbles finishes and wins higher due to how good they looked before meating this man. RIP CHAMP.

Not surprising - it’s Rumble’s only fight at heavyweight, so compared to welterweights, middleweights, and light heavyweights Arlovski *should* be the hardest hitter Rumble has faced. Rumble didn’t fight any huge power punchers at 205 really either, so far as I recall. So not particularly surprising. Arlovski has solid, legit HW power
@kfork8149 ай бұрын
@@kirklandau2826I mean he fought glover and Alex Gustafson
@kirklandau28269 ай бұрын
@@kfork814 True. But Gustafsson, being that he was chronically overrated, actually *never was* a huge knockout artist or known for his 1 punch KO prowess. His most devastating shot were his knees which he only threw on rare occasions when his opponent happened to be wide open for it (muay thai is truly a lost art up in the LHW division, barring Jon Jones and Anderson Silva, who honestly both just improvised that shit and miraculously got it to work off of sheer virtuoso, phenom-tier talent and Blacksplosive athleticism). Gustaffson shows he needed repeated shots to deal damage or take out opponents with his hands, something he only did against Texeira after 4 rounds of prancing around and lightly outboxing him on points, until he found the one uppercut that he landed repeatedly to stop the always tough, battle gristened Glover. As for Glover's power, he clearly posed more of a one punch knockout danger than Gus did, but it's still nothing crazy by LHW standards, probably on par with an average heavyweight. Arlovski is an *above average HW* though, so probably a step up in power from Glover's.

Arlovski had his counters down no doubt.

Who care Rumble fought at 170 🤣🤣 he better be able to hurt Rumble. Fact is AJ bust a heavyweight jaw like glass and won the fight. Rumble also shot because he was gassed Arlovski only did anything till that happened. Just like at the rematch in DC vs AJ AJ was never hurt yet he shot anyway. I believe Rumble would’ve actually fared better in this fight if he came in at his ideal LHW shape, leaner and lighter at around 215-220 lbs. I understand the urge to come in heavier at HW when you don’t have to make the effort to make a certain weight limit and when you’re fighting bigger and stronger guys and don’t want to be undersized, especially in the grappling, but Rumble is strong and powerful enough that he could’ve easily been 215-220 against Arlovski and would’ve performed better I believe... mainly the difference would be faster strikes with more “effective power” due to the greater speed. At 230 he’s a bit more sluggish and doesn’t have his usual speed and thus power as he does at LHW
@kirklandau28263 жыл бұрын
And in better condition at that weight... he looked very out of shape and lazy and lethargic at HW at 231 lbs
@kirklandau28269 ай бұрын
Basically this performance simply doesn't do Rumble his true, proper justice whatsoever (a legend of the 205 weight class and HOF worthy fighter and A-league athlete), nor does it lead to correct conclusions about how elite light heavies might fare at heavyweight in general... look at boxing and you will find the greatest heavyweights of all time, including superheavyweight and open weight class, are guys who could've fought at LHW easily by MMA standards, and in fact many were closer in size to most top middleweights in MMA. That's insane. But it also means that Robert Whittaker could compete with the best at LHW, and Yoel Romero and Israel Adesanya could fight against heavyweights.
