My wife and I had this album and WhiteChocolateSpaceEgg on constant rotation during our 3 week road trip through the Southwest when we got engaged in 98. Nothing like blasting Hoover Dam through the distorted speakers of a 92 Honda, while you're actually standing on top of the Hoover Dam. Still one of the best rock albums ever. Every song is a winner, not a dud un the bunch

You hit the nail on the head. Every song could have been single. I can only imagine how epic it must've felt to listen to on the edge of the Hoover Dam. Amazing.

Agree 100%. This album should be mentioned in the same sentence as Nevermind in terms of songwriting genius.

I remember seeing Sugar in Rhode Island before this album was out. It was the loudest concert I had been to at the time. It was truly amazing. The concert was in July. Got to meet Malcom after the show. I remember when the album came out. Me and my friends were disappointed that 2 of the songs weren't on Copper Blue( jc auto and tilted) I would later learn. When Beaster came out, we were so happy to hear those songs. And, the cover of " Armenia city in the sky" just blew us away. But the thing I remember most, was when they took the stage. Bob stood in front of his Amp for about half a minute, and produced the best, and loudest feedback I've ever heard. I was 17. Had no idea what I was getting into. Until then, I had only seen Bob play acoustic. Now I realize how lucky I was.

Mr Bob Mould is the man , no doubts . 90s music was TOP . punk rock and noise and melodies and words that meant something ....and i was younger but do not misunderstand me , I still go to concerts and follow rock music but the moment we had back then it is not to be replicate in no ways ..

30 years ago, I got this album as the automatic monthly delivery from BMG. I had never heard of Sugar or Bob Mould before, but it literally helped shape my musical tastes for the rest of my life. Still one of my favorite albums of all time, start to finish.

This is great footage. I had the pleasure of seeing Sugar when they were touring for 'Copper Blue' in autumn of '92, and then again when Mould and Co. were doing the 20th anniversary of said album in late summer of 2012...both in the First Avenue mainroom. Timeless songs.

The Act We Act is my favourite song on the album, it just has this really strong harmony in the chorus, I'll be slaughtered for saying this but it's almost poppy. Bob Mould has such a unique and striking voice, like if Phil Collins and Henry Rollins of Black Flag had a child.

made the mistake of liking this before reading the 'Warning' at the end. I could probably retract my 'like', but that would be a dick thing to do - think about that.
@semajdis3 жыл бұрын
It is a dumb warning. It berates the reader for accepting conformity then has the audacity to the command the reader to conform to an imperative of its own. F*ck that. I reread the text 3 times just out of spite. Then I clicked like.

I'm glad to see he finally ditched that Flying V, but it seems like his music would be better with a Les Paul or SG. Strats have great versatility, but a Gibson's double humbucker would really fill out his live perfomances.
@music-hater3 жыл бұрын
Lol the audacity. Who are you? 😂
@scrublord58863 жыл бұрын
@@music-hater I know that the Flying V also has a double humbucker, but Mould's music has been consistently dogged by too much treble. Even his Opus Dei, Copper Blue, is poorly mixed. I don't know how you can listen to that and not hear too much treble. At any rate, the Strat give him a bit more versatility, and apparently he agrees with that assessment. He'll probably always have a nostalgic love for the V, but it's a shit guitar, really. And proof of that is that once he was earning a paycheck he bought a better guitar.
@DSG-br5lk2 жыл бұрын
He's been playing that Strat (live and in the studio) since he bought it in 1989; where the hell have you been? And if you ever heard the wall of noise he gets out of his live rig, you wouldnt say it needs filling in.
