Yesterday, December 18, 2015, Transport Canada gave the final certification for this CS 100 mid size jet. It's nose, wings ( made in Ireland ) tail and all upright parts at the rear, are carbon fiber. This drops the wight by 12,000 pounds ( 3,443 kilos ) compared to a same seat Boeing 737 or an airbus A320. The huge weight savings has allowed the stretch version of this plane, the CS 300, to be able to fly 650 kilometers farther than original design planning, based on over 3,000 hours of flight test. This means it is now a Trans Atlantic plane and can fly from Boston, New York or Washington, DC, non-stop to London. The new type of GTF or Geared Turbo Fan engines, have a gearbox inside of them, to slow down parts of the engine, save 21 percent in actual fuel burn and it also reduces engine noise to just 25 percent of other same power engines. The engine is made by Pratt & whitney and it took over 30 years to develop and deliver this High Bypass Ratio ( 12 to 1 ratio ) engine. Airbus will offer the same engine on the re-engined A320 NEO. NEO means, New Engine Option, not the guy from the movie.
