the lutz was underotated, the spins were not difficult and the spiral sequence was not very difficult too. ok 4.9 and 5.1 were severe. but overall she deserved the marks she received on both programms. even on her long 1 of the 2 lutzes was underotated the flip was not well landed the 3 3 combo was not completed and same remark for the spins. i was not chocked by her marks and i was happy she was capable to get the podium.

@Gary Henzler Although Lulu is a beautiful skater, she didn't deserve higher than bronze at these games. Some even argue that Maria or Irina should've gotten the bronze. I think the correct 3 were on the podium.

@@nipaipo36100but the marks are way too low not to think theres someting wrong happening! Now, I'd like to know what you have to say about the 5.3 presentation mark from the Aussie judge. Lu's artisry was supreme and only rivaled by Michelle. A 5.3? Come on! Isnt it more than obvius the judges were setting up gold for Michelle? Same story as in 96 worlds. And before Michelle's fans crucify me let me tell you that I LOVE Michelle and that she is by far the skater that thrills me the most. But im trying to be objective here. I think Lu was underscored in 96 and in Nagano. In 96 she should've won. Its unbelievable she didnt. She skated a true work of art (yes, superior to Michelle's Salome, which was great). As of Nagano, Michelle had evolved so much and was at her peak of her abilities. Lyra Angelica is a diamond. She was THE BEST that night and I think she deserved to win. She didnt really need the"help" the corrupted judges gave her... that they gave her and that gave the other American who ultimately (and so unfairly) took the gold.

2 of the 3 spins had issues, slow towards the end and the lutz looked noticeably UR so I can see the 4.9 but the judges weren’t consistently strict like this so in that perspective it’s uncalled for. I would’ve gone 5.2/5.8.. lipinski should’ve been behind this artistically at 5.7
@Kreatures1004 жыл бұрын
Wow beautiful lady, sophisticated choreography and lyrically performed. Why was she so underscored. Can someone point out the flaws. Yes the Lay back leg position isn’t perfectly perpendicular to the ice and the under rotation on the lutz may have been a bit off but 4.9? Come on. Ridiculous. She is a former world champion!!!

all these years later, I would have still liked Michelle to have won this event (seeing what she did after, glad that didn't happen) but would have put Lu in first after the short for artistry alone here. She was hands down the best artistically in the short. ...and the long really. who didn't cry when she finished??? Michelle didn't skate to her music in either program here but it was still better technically to Tara whose jumps, save for the 3L3L, barely left the ice and spins, Michele's were more difficult. I don't think Tara was ever artistic, she just figured out how to place her hands nicely. Michelle was a better skater in 95 than Tara in 98. Go figure!!! so here we are! I trust that all ladies are happy today and thankful for their contributions!! Skating was so much more fun then!!

Get real, the short program is about technical elements first and foremost and even the artistry in this program, while good, is rather bland for her standards and much less than Kwan's historic short program and probably even less than Maria's short program. Considering the weak technical elements, very poorly done double axel, 3 awful spins especialy the combination spin and flying spin, and simple footwork sequence, and small triple flutz combo, and she was extremely lucky to be 4th in the short and get some required elements as high as 5.4 and 5.6. The U.S judge imparticular must have been snorting some strong shit to give marks that high. The 4.6 for required elements was probably closer to an accurate mark, no major mistake but atleast half her elements were mediocre to weak in quality, and the artistry while good was below most of her other programs too.

She is a world class beauty, and a brilliant skater. I am here on KZbin looking for that performance she did years ago where her skating routine looked so much like the Chinese Martial Art, Pa-Kua. She skated a circle, did a spin, skated the other way on the circle, and did another spin. She would hold different postures (dynamically, of course) as she skated on the circle. I wish I could find it.

a beautiful performance but technical point is low because of her 3Lz< and traveling spin.
@skatefan94958 жыл бұрын
Yes, the traveling spin was quite obvious. But 4.9? Where did that come from?
@sbe797 жыл бұрын
Besides the travelling combo spin, the other spins weren't quite in the same realm as many of the top ladies. They looked uncomfortable and you could tell she had a hard time keeping position. She was also surely downgraded on the base mark because of the Triple Toe. She was probably the last skater considered a serious contender that used the Toe Loop as their non-combination triple. Kwan, Lipinski, Butyrskaya, Slutskaya, Gusmeroli... everyone else that mattered did not use a Toe. By this point, everyone else had upgraded to Loop and Flip (except for Bonaly who was hanging on here by reputation alone). The SP had changed a lot since she had last won a title. I'd venture they also may have deducted for the "barely-there" spiral sequence. It was something a mediocre junior skater would do. She didn't hold any position for longer than a second. Not powerful, nor convincing. But, damn, did she know how to acknowledge portions of music. She didn't skate *over* music, she skated *to* it as an extension of the sound. I loved it, artistically. Technically? I wasn't mad about the 4.9 though I might have given her a 5.2 or 5.3... but, in no universe should it have been any higher. Artistically, it was a good 5.6 or 5.7... I didn't really "feel" that SHE felt the music, at least not in the way she did two years prior when she still a force.
