Let me start by stating I'm a huge MC fan ever since I was a child, but I will call out any flaws I hear. This performance was decent, nowhere near amazing. Yes, she can still hold notes and sing, but she did not sound flawless like many stans are saying. Mariah's voice has been through so many trials and tribulations in her 20+ year career and I am surprised it still is there considering her whistle register usage and the vocality of her songs. She was flat on a majority of the low notes and straining in the belts. Yes, this is a difficult song, but what Mariah song isn't? She could have lowered the key like she does many others and just stayed within range. If you stans attack me over this, it just proves that you guys are ass kissers and will attack any opposing opinion without fully understanding the person is saying. She is not terrible and still has some aspects of her voice and even if she lost her voice completely, she doesn't need to prove anything because her stats and name speaks for itself. Overall, she is still in the better portion of what's out there now, even though her latest album was meh and overproduced vocally. I liked MOAIA more than IAMEC

She didn't completely lose her voice. If she's still able to hit whistle notes on command and hit E5's then her voice is in pretty good condition in my book. She's lost the effervescent quality she used to and now it takes much more effort for her. But regardless of such she does sound great and is proving herself capable 25 years later.

Of course her voice is damaged,and she can't sing like before,but she can still sing circles around most of these younger bubble gum pop singers...lol She's been vocally inconsistent since 97.

aquamarine11500 Not really. 01-05 is extremely strong. After a miscarriage here and there, stress, nodules mixing with age, and a few splashes, 08- now has seen it's moments. She sung perfectly though late 2009-2012 though

If this wasn't Mariah Carey and if you all weren't fans of her, you'd be all saying this singer sucks. Can't you hear how flat she sounds most of the time? Can't you hear how strained, overpushed she sounds on those notes? She's screaming and it sounds (and looks) like she's agonizing. The fact she's for once shooting for those (mid-belting range) notes doesn't mean she's hitting them the right way. This was just another bad performance. A bit better than usual? Maybe yes.

She hit all her notes and then added an update to the end. Mariah's voice has changed but her gift for melody remains intact, as evidenced by that improv at the end. Plus her voice has been getting progressively better after every single show.

The notes weren't perfect but yes, she hit them, and I'd rather she went for it and sounded a bit hoarse than she lipped or dodged the notes. It's not like she's Christina Aguilera, forcing and straining since the start of her career. She's been in the game for 25 years, the fact that she can still outsing most in the game now is impressive. She's always going to fall short when people compare her to her at her prime (because she set the standard so high), which is what these folk who dislike her but seem to have time to watch all her random tour recordings seem to do.

Nobody is as bad as Christina Aguilera, she's the worst singer. I wasn't comparing today's Mariah to her prime tho. I just saw this performance posted everywhere on facebook and decided to listen to it, expecting an amazing one. It's just not amazing and far from perfect. Just a little above her average.

workitout80 You are wright. Those high notes are strain. If she can stop using upper chest voice to belt and turn to head voice like Beyonce, she will gain a lot of control. Although belting by head voice is sharp and shouting.

Beyoncé doesn't "turn to head voice", Beyoncé mixes in the most proper, healthy, dynamically versatile way. The right way. Mariah IS shouting in this performance, and she's shouting C#5s and D5s, not Fs and Gs.
