Nancy Kerrigan always reminded me of Cinderella when I'd watch her as a kid. That's the only reason I favored her. She was beautiful and graceful and still is to this day.

Ok- speaking as a Tonya lover since 2015: People.. chill on this newfound hate for Nancy. She looks incredible here. She has her flaws but so does Yamaguchi (whom I always found to be WAY more stiff of a skater). I used to not care for her skating either because I was so blindsided by Tonya’s magnetism but Nancy has subtleties that are so lovely. This performance is serene!!! Plus in the end, she certainly is the better competitor. A much more complete package than Tonya (though she is still my fave).

I've never been a Nancy fan, and I didn't agree with the judging for her free skate in Albertville, but I have to agree to an extent. At the end of the day, Nancy hit in her shorts in both Olympics and in the 1994 long, Tonya had mistakes in both occasions (though I would argue that her 1992 free skate should've been placed above Nancy's), she also never landed the triple axel after 1991. I always found Nancy's skating really boring to watch, but this short was actually really well done. She had that certain spark that wasn't there in her long and she had more speed and charisma here You're right, Kristi and Nancy both had issues in their skating, Kristi being the triple salchow and Nancy the triple flip. I think the difference is that Kristi had transitions that were quite unusual at the time which always helped her artistry scores, whereas Nancy's were more basic. People seem to hate on Nancy more as a person than as a skater (which I admit, includes me), because of her Mickey Mouse disney rant and making fun of Oksana for crying after winning the Olympics

She and the other girl Chen Lu had been waiting for almost 30 minutes for the award ceremony to begin, she had been given false information that Oksana was having to redo her makeup because she had been crying so much. To be honest, I can kind of understand her being kind of upset. She said “ she is just going to cry again” yeah might not have been the nicest thing to say, but it was in all honesty kind of stating the obvious because she did cry again. However, I really fail to see where that is making fun of someone, or even being rude, or unkind. Besides, you forget to mention she also hugged and congratulated Oksana. I think Nancy was just hurt, angry, and frustrated because she had honestly thought she had won the Gold medal, but she didn’t. Plus the fact, that she had been a crime victim, and might have thought she might not only never be able to walk much less skate just a few weeks beforehand. People forget these athletes are human, and have the same emotions, and reactions everyone else does. There have been other people that have been “ poor sports” when they didn’t win. One example is the girl who won the silver medal in figure skating at the last Olympics she screamed, cried, and lashed out at everyone around her, and no one says a thing about that. But people are still attacking Nancy for the way she reacted thirty years later.

@@annehancock6734 I watched it live when Nancy mocked Oksana, Nancy rolled her eyes, and there's footage on KZbin of Nancy's sour face standing on the podium watching Oksana receive her well-deserved gold medal. BTW Nancy's injury was not severe, it was a bruise which healed by the Olympics. Oksana actually skated with far worse injuries and won gold.

Nancy’s forte is lovely, swanlike gliding movements that transition smoothly from shape to shape. Fiery and ebullient she isn’t, however, this is a beautiful polished performance and very easy on the eye. She’s ”Swan Lake” 🦢rather than “The Firebird” 🔥!!

Well, Vera was a former skater herself so she understood exactly what was needed in skating outfits, not only the dramatic/artistic costuming part but aspects such as stretch fabrics and the cut of the dress so it stayed in place while jumping and spinning. I have nothing against Vera Wang - she was an unknown designer then, but smart enough to donate a dress to Nancy for free in the realisation that it would reap her much more in free publicity, so good luck to her, I say.

technicly good. good jumps. good extension on the spiral sequence. but artisticly she seems to be a robot. i would have probably given 5.8 and 5.7 (1st) in front of bonaly (5.8 5.6) 2nd and chen 3rd 5.4 and 5.7. i would have given 5.3 and 5.8 to baiul in the short.

@@Hikutachama it was all over the news at the time and also if you watch the ending of the Lillehammer olympic medal program just before the medals are given out it shows Nancy and Chen Lu waiting for Oksanna and a man comes up and tells them that Oksanna was doing her makeup and would be out shortly which was not the truth and at that point Nancy and Chen Lu had been waiting for 26 minutes.....the truth was that they were waiting because they could not find Oksanna's National anthem .....

Nancy then said, "So she's gonna get out here and cry again, what's the difference?". Also when the gold medal was placed around Oksana's neck, Nancy could be seen scowling at the sight of it and then she turned around laughing after seeing Oksana cry again.
