Don't know which one to buy? Thinking about a trade? Just curious about differences? This is a pretty thorough breakdown of the differences between purchasing an HD Road Glide vs an Indian Challenger. My first video on this subject was all about performance on dynos, this one is about the overall bikes features. Enjoy!

My Harley buddies would always say that the windshield, the power locking bags, the ride modes, that all that stuff was a gimmick until they rode with me a few times and realized how cool it really was

In 2016 I bought a 2010 HD Softail Custom with 2660 miles on it. June 4 2024 I traded it in with 143000 miles on it and purchased a 2023 Indian Challenger Dark Horse with matte black smoke paint. I'm getting used to the much more powerful and bigger bike but no complaints and I haven't tried sport mode yet. I have, however, brought it to a suitable road and hit the 110 mph as I was told with NO problem. Indian has limited the bike to 110 but I had plenty of throttle left. I'm still making friends with Ride Command and Car Play. I wish Indian would have chosen something closer to Mazda's red or I'd have bought that one but over all no complaints.

My 2014 Ultra Limited (with 35,000 miles) paint is in much better condition than my Challenger with 2500 miles. HD is still the king when it comes to the paint. Outside of that, my Indian Challenger is so much more fun to ride when I am feeling a little salty, and the power…. OMG! Although the Indian Challenger is considered a sport/touring bike, I can’t make it past 400 miles a day, whereas I can ride 1000 miles a day on my Ultra’s. Both companies make amazing bikes - am proud to own them both!

Shame on Harley for trying to cheat people. The bike I have now, a 2019 ultra limited is out of warranty and I take that bike to a independent for maintenance and repairs. Harleys large dealers network is peace of mind when me and the wife are traveling if we ever have a problem. Bang for your buck os what has me leaning more and more to the Indian side. I loved my Road Glide but when i add up all the money I have to spend to make it faster it's not worth it. I also think HD jas such a loyal fan base that they do whatever they want. Customers for HD have been asking HD for years why they don't at least put LED turn signals on the bike? To this day HD still hasn't done it yet. They know that people will still buy their bikes regardless of their complaints. Both very nice bikes but I think I'm gonna go with who's giving me more for ny money.

Awesome video Dark Horse the only downside i see is to Indian's infotainment center is that you only get 1yr free now instead of 2 yrs, with a price tag of 80$ a yr after that if you want navigation after the initial free period! Harley doesn't make you pay for the navigation !!
@DarkHorseParatrooper

I'll tell you what though, 80 bucks a year ain't bad considering it let's you track your bike. That alone is worth it. Those Lowjacks people have installed in cars are like 1500 to 2000 dollars, and only last like 5 to 7 years I believe.

@@DarkHorseParatrooper Except the adjustable suspension for heavy loads/passenger on the screen...which is pretty nice. Adding all that stuff to a Challenger, still will not get you the resale value of a Pursuit. Have a 2020 Challenger, but would love the adjustable suspension on the fly. Great vid btw
@DarkHorseParatrooper
@DarkHorseParatrooper 2 жыл бұрын
Why worry about resale value. Bikes are awesome, if you ain't planning to sell it then value means nothing. On top of that, YOU the consumer do not benefit from resale values, dealers do. To further elaborate how meaningless "value retention" really is, something like 40 or 50 percent of bikes on the road are Harleys. That should mean they are worthless, yet somehow they "retain" value. It's all a rigged system. Vehicles are depreciating liabilities, they have no actual value other than what you can hopefully sell them for at any time, which is always (until covid) at a loss.
@paulk9188
@paulk9188 2 жыл бұрын
@@DarkHorseParatrooper Well, you’ll always get more money when you sell private party, and a moded out Challenger is not going to sell for as much as a Pursuit, that’s just a fact..based on book value alone..not to mention adjustable suspension that is only available on the Pursuit..why would you think resale value only is beneficial to the dealer? I’ve owned several Indians, I always get more private party sell then I would dealer trade in..
@DarkHorseParatrooper
@DarkHorseParatrooper 2 жыл бұрын
Because 99 percent of people trade vehicles at a massive loss because the book trade values are always significantly less than, as you mentioned, private party sales. And most vehicle transactions are in fact not private party sales, but handled at a dealer. So the typical consumer won't benefit from the actual value of the vehicle. And no, the electronic suspension is NOT only available on the pursuit. In fact, not a single item on the pursuit is unique. The electronic suspension is available for 1k from Indian.

Lettuce be real tea, if you are touring, having a functional windshield, auto-lock bags, loads of power on demand to get out of traffic in a hurry, navigation system, display of oil levels, tire pressure, media, all in front of you on a touchable screen, better braking for emergency stop, and now the Challenger has adjustable suspension on the screen for 2 up riding....these are all things one would want in a tourer bagger. My best friend had a RG Limited. It’s a nice bike, has the 114 and very good performance. He agrees with the Challenger being a better bike right from the factory. If he didn’t owe so much on his, he’d probably be riding a Roadmaster. I’m wondering if the Guardian when it comes out will be a Roadmaster with the 108? I always say it’s your money, get what YOU want. But you’re right when you say you get more right from the start from Indian. I’m sorry you had issues with yours, hope that resolves soon! I am surprised mine isn’t snake bit being an initial year for a new bike. Some electrical issues that are strange, but clear easily. I am also a fan of the fuel scheduling flash that fixed some bugs. My primary bike is the new Sportster S, so if I really want to tear up the tarmac on a short hop, I am not taking the bagger anyway. My local Indian dealer could not produce a challenger I could ride. They were selling every single one, their demo bike was down and parts were not available. I rode a road glide and bought it. HD still builds a nice bike. The improvements were good enough. The road glide still looks way better. I will never try and race a challenger……..but having the fastest touring bike is not really what I want in a touring bike. I have no doubt if I would have rode the Indian I would have bought it. I don’t regret buying the Harley.

Sucks you couldn't ride one. Much better ride than the HD. You dont need to race them, but you'll know the power is always there when you need it. Nothing like it on the market. Supply is dogshit right now, if you ever do get to test ride one almost guaranteed you'll trade.

Rob, your last sentence says you don't regret not buying the Challenger...but it's pretty clear you have some heavy buyer's remorse. Lettuce be real tea, if you are touring, having a functional windshield, auto-lock bags, loads of power on demand to get out of traffic in a hurry, navigation system, display of oil levels, tire pressure, media, all in front of you on a touchable screen, better braking for emergency stops..are all things one would want in a tourer bagger. Trying to convince yourself that HD is a better tourer for 2-up is not going to help your cope. Sorry if you are seething after reading this bro, but just tryin to be straight with you..

The 900 dollar surcharge has actually been around for months already. And no, not true. I also paid the 900 fee, after taxes, registration and an extended warranty for 7 years, I barely paid 31k. Before all that it was like 29. If you're seeing prices like that, it's definitely dealer markup. The black smoke dark horse starts at 28.5k, ad the 900 and that's 29.4k. Not at 30.

I don’t doubt much of what you say. However let’s talk support and service. Many states have 1 Indian dealer period. They are by far few and far between. So when you want to have your bike serviced at a dealer you have to travel a lot. Also parts. If your bike is down or you need a part and that dealer is one of one or two in the state everyone goes to that dealer and they never have parts in stock. I own a 2020 street glide. My wife rides a 2021 Indian scout bobber. It took me a day to get bars put on and the bike serviced. It took 2 months to get the 10 in mini apes and the cables for them. I had to go to several dealers on my own to finally make it happen. I’ll stick with Harley until Indian gets their stuff together.

Indian in the best thing to happen to HD. If it wasn't for Indian beating it's chest, HD wouldn't have any reference or point of aim to shoot for. When HD counters Indian, a year later Indian does the same. Trust and believe, as long as Indian is in the game, HD has no choice but to produce better bikes. From now on, if you're on a HD you'll be riding the best bike they can make. They've been put on notice, go to sleep on Polaris and you'll be on the sidelines. For us to consumers it's great. Indian may be the only bike out there to keep HD on point. I think HD'S focus always needed focus. Know it will be a lot sharper now. Iron sharpens iron, let the battle rage on! Safe travels.

By the time Harley can even match Indian, they will have something lightyears better. Look how long it has been since the Challenger has been launched and Harley has not even been close to matching it yet. Harley is in really big trouble, the last thing they needed was a major competitor like Indian and the worst part is Polaris has the money!!!!! The Challenger was one thing, but the Pursuit really hurt Harley. Polaris has the money, R&D and the ability to make some quality stuff. They are not afraid to take chances and they give people what they want. Indian is just getting started. Indian is going to go after everything Harley makes and just wait till Indian starts making a trike!! They have a company now that puts them together, but I am sure they will be factory bikes real soon. Just something to think about, how many people were die hard Harley loyalist that would have never even thought about riding anything else are now on Indians. Other than that I have only added personal touches to the bike and to date not a single issue what so ever. Indian is one size fits all, the beauty of the harley is that the aftermarket is vast and you can alter the bike to fit your wants and desires. The parts for indian are on back order half the time and few and far between in the aftermarket. With a cam and exhaust 5k max I can not match but come nicely close to the numbers on a challenger. And beat the numbers on the rest of the touring models. To fix all that ugly ass cheap plastic and paint your bike proper it would take at least 5-10k. So who is lying here? Truth is both bikes fall short in different areas. Harley simply has the aftermarket and dealer network to deal with any of them. Indian not so much. Prove me wrong. List how many indian dealers there are per state compared to that of harley. Not even close. Also are you trying to say indian motorcycles never have maintenance issues. I can find many videos from CUSTOMERS here on you tube that prove different. Riding fish has a bike whose trim comes loose all the time and rattles like hell. He has also documented other issues that have happened to his bike. I come with facts not fan boys.
