For the first time ever, the new Siemens SC-44 Chargers visits California for a short period of time. These brand new chargers were ordered by the Amtrak Cascades in the pacific northwest and were the first transportation department to receive them. In addition, these chargers were also the first to travel southbound on the Coast Starlight (Amtrak #11) into Los Angeles, Ca and travel east on Amtrak's Southwest Chief (Amtrak #4) as shown in the video. Normally the Chargers hitch a ride on Amtrak's California Zephyr (Amtrak #6) which is a straight shot into Denver, Co. However, the test track is still a ways south of Denver. These units were both traveling to a test track in Colorado where they are tested for speed and performance. The SC-44 Chargers are geared up for a stunning 125mph for high speed passenger service anywhere in the U.S.. The majority of these units are planned to replace the existing F59s from various commuter rail lines across the country if the Charger proves it's performance and reliability.
