No!!!!!!!!

It is odd, but as a musician, I appreciate that they can carry on with all this AND still play the heck out of this piece. Most of us struggle to just sit in our chairs and play. So, not my cup of tea, but the logistics of this are impressive!

All the negative comments regarding this performance astound me. These talented individuals (do not deny their musical proficiency), are expressing themselves physically through music. This is a beautiful thing. Whether you subjectively like the interpretation or not is irrelevant. It demands your respect, and we should all aim to express ourselves truly and honestly, without fear of judgement or condemnation.
@MichaelDarnton6 жыл бұрын
They aren't expressing themselves: the choreographer is expressing through them, and they have to put up with it to get paid. And they don't look like they are enjoying it all. The players are doing the playing part well, in spite of it.

BRAVI!!

This is great playing, and much of it is from memory. Do the haters realize the choreography is largely just acting out Vivaldi’s programmatic directions? This is marching band for string players. Sure, we string players all nerds, but this is fun.

At first I thought I wouldn't like it, but I'm blown away... Goose gumps and all. (And that doesn't seem to happen to me very often anymore!) Each of the four concertos is already a tone painting representing a season according to four poems by Vivaldi himself, but what they did took the evocatory quality of the work to a whole new level. The poems were obviously taken into consideration, and the scenic action to me just adds some more exquisiteness to the whole. Beautiful. Thanks for uploading!

Working for a radio station I've heard so many many versions of this work. I understand they might feel the need to "reinvent" it to keep it "fresh" but, seriously, they are a world class ensemble, the music is genius and it really doesn't require the distraction. Just play it so we can be in bliss.

Not only is this one of the very best performances of this work -- full of fire, guts, torches blazing and baroque bravado -- but I completely applaud this orchestra's attempt at staging it and make the musicians part of the story, and giving it a completely new dimension. Classical music needs thinkers and artists like this if it is to perservere. FANTASTIC! Midori is sublime here.

Everyone has the right to like it or not, but I feel that people who do not like it act in a reactionary way. The presentation, besides offering the music of Vivaldi, gives us with a beautiful and sensitive performance. It's something that adds to the music. It's beautiful!

the most surprising thing in this performance is that they actually played quite well. I generally don't accept the way of thinking that the music itself is not enough. If the music like this is not enough it is always suspected that something went wrong with the players or the listeners :) But with music and choreography one can always just close eyes and simply listen (although doing the way around would be quite hilarious, isn't it ;P )

As always, music grows. Some see it one way once and will only ever see that way again. The music is the trunk of a tree with roots going deep into meaning and beauty flowering in the branches. Every season, it's different. There is no piece of music more ripe for such interpretation. What does it mean? Only what it means to you. What we say about it may say as much about who says it as the music and musicians say with this presentation.

Honestly, I really don't understand what's the problem with you people. If you don't like the choreography just shut your eyes and listen - it's played pretty well, without for instance all that nonsense vibrato you hear in modern interpretation of Vivaldi. I find the presence of the choreography a truly interesting way of sharing the original message underneath these four Concertos - a story about the succession of the Seasons, one of the most symbolically strong tale that humanity shares, and is thus open to interpretation (e.g. life to death, love and hate, and so on). And most of all, jeez, try to respect the work of people that can play better than most of who's commenting and for sure have fresher ideas.

I absolutely dislike this weird visual "theatre" that they are indulging in, however the AUDIO I like very much indeed. It's played extremely sensibly and sensitively. In their playing (I mean in the audio) they really bring out what is in there in the music. The contrast between this audio, and the brutal way in which the typical classical orchestra typically performs these concertos is very great. I consume this one with audio only.
@Fulphilment7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Finally a mature review. Whether "oh, it's so great" nor "it's retarded", but actually well put into words. I dislike any sort of popular interpretation of the classics. Art is something very personal. Individual interpretations are in a way a slap to the face to everyone who's had a different interpretation. My feelings, when hearing the music, definitely do not match what is shown here.

Freaking out about choreography is ridiculous. No, perhaps this hyper modern interpretive antic is a bit unfit for Vivaldi, but my lord people, THIS IS THE BAROQUE. Never in the history of European music has there been a period more open to theatrics. The whole PIECE is theatrics. It is dance and thunder. Baroque music was meant to move its audience literally. Sitting around in tuxedos in chairs while the audience is quiet and reverent might feel right to us, but it would have been ridiculous and pretentious to Vivaldi or any of his contemporaries. The true disrespect is treating his music as if it a dead, fossilized heritage piece. Dance!
