The curious observation is that I can't hear the nuances, nor peer closely at the artists' faces and instruments. Not from the audience can I hear the nuances as I can with these recorded performances. I'm also distracted by the uncomfortable seating, the cold of the building, the loud perfume of the lady in front of me, or the unbelievable coughing from behind me.

This music somehow manages to affect me in the most simple yet potent way. After listening to it this morning I couldn’t help but grin and whistle it to myself as I walked down the street. This piece didn’t crash over me in great waves of emotion like his passions did, but their respective roles are equally important. I am very grateful for this music that reminds me of all the beauty in those simple moments.

It has been more than 40 years since I heard this Siciliano for the first time. I was living in Belgium, and a light snow was falling. It was the perfect aural landscape. On hearing this magical sound, one is frozen in time, with no desire to return to the madness of daily life. I am so grateful for this splendid performance by Emma Black and the Netherlands Bach Society.

I recognize this concerto, but I heard it for the first time on a record I just bought in July, 1967 in Minnesota. The arrangement then was in E major for harpsichord, and was performed by Suzanna Ruzikova. Either way it is magnificent! Bach will always live through his music.

Every time I listen to a Bach concerto (admittedly, very infrequently) I have to smile at the bouncy harpsichord just happily doing its thing underneath all the more featured instruments. My mind has made in inextricable connection between the harpsichord and Bach, for whatever reason.

She does a very nice job holding it down. This is not an easy piece to play. She balances out ornamentation very well. Not too flashy, not too "style rustico". I noted that she had that quiet moment after ending her solo in the Siciliano that some of us get when we play Bach music. The man had the uncanny ability to reach into your head. Doing so while playing is more profound. The whole group plays well, in a balanced and mature way.

Admirable la destreza de la solista en oboe, para extraer la dulce melancolia del instrumento. La orquesta se luce magistral.

Oboists however did very well out of Bach's Concerto for Oboe and Violin, one of the most beautiful of all concertos in the classical repertory, with an adagio second movement that can just about break one's heart.
