This was cinema. No CGI, no green screen, no stupid action. Just pure emotion, a story told in a real beautiful place, amazing script and incredible performances. God how I miss these kind of movies. One true master piece of the 90s

@xen13133 жыл бұрын
@@kimberlyjohnson3136 why when studio's only want what fits in to predefined formula. Most action movies are just Die Hard in a new place, with new protagonist. They all follow the same format, hero identified, hero humanized, hero vanquished, hero comes back and wins, end of movie. Until studio's go back to creativity over formula, we won't see real masterpieces. All we get is recycled trope.

Despite their intense rivalry and sour relationship, I always felt that Tristan and Alfred both loved and admired each other for the qualities they didn't have in them. Alfred envied Tristan for his charm & his reckless abandonment of every rule AND Tristan admired Alfred for his self discipline and his wisdom that's why he entrusted the care of his kids to his older brother who called it a great "honour"... a tear jerking moment for me... For all their rivalry, they were true brothers till the end ❤

He was behind some of the most memorable movie compositions in history and pretty much all my favorite movies growing up. He’s worked with amazing directors l, he’s a sought after A-list actor with a swarm of fans. Everyone says how beautiful he was during this era and even now. He won an Oscar for his acting. He’s also been involved with numerous Academy Award winning films as one of the top producers in Hollywood. He married “America’s Television Sweetheart” and then married what _some_ considered the most beautiful woman in the world at the time of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. He’s a worldwide _international_ superstar (which I’d say less than only 10 men are in acting) In what world is he underrated? I’m trying to find it.

I was lucky enough to work on Legends. I had just graduated from film school in Calgary and I was hired to work on the extras casting crew. There were hundreds of extras on Legends. It ran like a well oiled machine. Their uniforms were vintage actual World War I uniforms. They were from Britain. They were heavy itchy wool which drove a lot of the guys crazy. Interestingly men were a lot smaller in those years and I think the largest chest size we had was 42. For the battle scenes wardrobe and props put nearly 700 guys through and they were just amazingly well organized. The young men who played the soldiers actually went to a boot camp for six weeks and were divided into battalions. Their commander was a former Green Beret from the US. A great guy named Rock. I subsequently worked with Rock on several other films. One of my favourite guys. I have many great memories from working on that film. I was standing behind the trenches when Aidan Quinn came out during the night time fire fight. There were over 200 explosions. There were vintage World War I cannons from Virginia firing. The noise was astonishing and literally rattled your clothing. I can understand why young men came back from that war with PTSD, which in those days they called being shellshocked. Just the bloody noise was enough to rattle you to your core. It was all amazingly choreographed. I believe there were seven cameras rolling. Several on large cranes. It was shot I think five or six times through that night and every time looked exactly the same with every guy pretty much knowing where they were supposed to run where the explosions were going to go off etc. It was August and we were near Calgary but it was freaking cold and there was a weird mist in the air which actually I think worked quite well for the filming. We had very long days and nights. But it was a great experience. Probably the most etched in my mind is watching Henry Miller‘s death scene. When he was caught against the Barbwire and that terrible haunted and terrified look on his face and he looked so childlike in that moment. There were several burly Teamsters standing near me and let me tell you they all had tears in their eyes. I was lucky enough to grow up in Canmore, in those glorious mountains you see so often. Also watching this it was great to see Gordon Tootosis, I wonderful Canadian actor I knew slightly from the TV series North of Sixty. A great guy with a hilarious sense of humor. Sorry to say that Gordon has passed on. So many memories. Walking the trenches and the Army Hospital in the heat of August afternoons on those long days waiting for extras to come back to get wardrobe secured etc. etc. It’s been along time since I’ve watch this film. I think it’s time to watch it again. ❤️ it is damn sad though. And beautiful.

I've never seen the film which I now intend to do. I just came across it looking for music of one sort or another, and having heard of the film and James Horner (what a tragic end for such a man who could write such beautiful music) I clicked on it and POW - it took me quite a while to calm down. One of, and maybe the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard, even after Barbers Adagio.
