that moment when he sees is father is so well acted. my dad had a stroke a few years back and i was in a different state. it was the weirdest feeling i have ever had when i made it to the hospital because here was the guy that taught me how to do it all and do it the right way, but now he can't lift one of his arms and at the moment could not remember my name or where he was. Then the doc pulled me out into the hall to explain to me that during their scans they found a tumor about the size of a fist and he had stage four cancer. I will remember that feeling the rest of my life and have always described it as "joyful guilt", dad was my best friend and i was not ready to lose him yet, i had nearly missed my chance to say goodbye, and now the guilt because after everything he had just went through i felt like shit because in my mind all i could think was,"i'm not ready for this, for him not to be here anymore." We said goodbye to him last november and i still was not ready, and if i am honest almost a year later and i am still not ready

The intriguing thing about Tristan is that the traits that draw people to him, his independence, single-mindedness, ruggedness and wildness, are the traits that push him away from people close to him. There doesn't seem to be any balance. His highs are very high and his lows are incredibly low. Like the Montana nature that surrounds the Ludlow ranch, he is enchanting, mesmerizing and strong but also unpredictable and destructive. As epic as his return was in this scene, the reality is that he basically abandoned them for years. But it seems that because he is everyone's favorite, they just accept that his volatile nature is a part of who he is.

You make a dynamic point however, I think Tristen was on his dark night of the soul journey and had to get away as to not burden the family with more stress and grief they had already endured losing Samuel in the war. Life gives us highs and lows to give us contrast and to give us real meaning to the one life we have. Sometimes in order to heal we need to give ourselves grace and time for that to happen, selfish or not .

But you can see how Alfred would feel some resentment that Tristan because of his affinity with Native American culture, his wildness and wilfulness always seems to be beloved and Alfred who tries to do things the right way is still loved but not beloved by the family.

I think that this movie succeeded in showing the truth about us all. We all are good and bad. We are strong and weak. We are different but in some ways the same. The bond of family and love is stronger than we know. JMO.

I love this movie so much! It makes me long for a different time that I feel I were meant to be in. But, at the same time, I can hardly watch it due to such heartbreaking moments. It's a beautiful film, but I can only watch it once every few years or so, and when I do watch it, I'm not the same for a few days afterwards. Sounds extreme, but that's how much it reaches in and grabs my heart. 😢

I'm from Calgary Alberta t was filmed about 60 miles away from where I live . it was filmed close to the Bow River just outside of Baneff national park the Homestead scene was set up there , it's a great movie great actors and the scenery is fantastic.

I think that Brad Pitt has done lots of filming in Alberta where I currently live. He was filming Jesse James in Edmonton and a friend of mine seen him and Angie at the royal Tyrrell museum in drumheller one Sunday evening. From about 7:00 till nine they came in when the crowd was sparse . I'm sure Brad Pitt enjoys Alberta as well. A friend of my boyfriend saw Ron Wood (rolling stones gutairist )at lake lousie with his family.What a small world. Funny thing Lake Louise is named after Queen Victoria's daughter Princess Louise who absolutely .loved Lake Louise and spent a lot of time there. And made frequent visits

When I was a kid we lived in Carrot River one summer. They were building a dam and my dad drove a dump truck. As for Alberta, I have a brother in Rocky Mountain House. My folks used to talk about a dinosaur museum, and I think it was in Drumheller - is that the one?
