(UPDATE) - I spoke to Jason (GametechUS) and he informed me that the Plexiglass cover that was sent to me is susceptible to damage in the presence of I.P.A.. Hopefully, as long as you don't clean the unit with alcohol like I did, you want see any splintering and/or cracks in the plexiglass panel.
Ladies and gentlemen, the GBConsolizer is a dream come true for me. At last, I can play all of my Gameboy games in glorious, 720P, lagless high-definition video with NO middleman device. This is without exception the GREATEST Gameboy mod of all time!

The "solder GOD" has blessed us again with another step by step that only 1% of his viewers can do themselves.....lol I've been doing a few recaps on old consoles and computers and used your amazing techniques to get a clean and solid connection for all of my solder points. Thank you for sharing these amazing videos Voultar..! 💪🏽🧑🏽

Only 1% can do this level of solder? How do you figure? Seems pretty mundane to me. Sure, there's quite a bit of work involved, but nothing super tricky. More tedious than anything. Soldering is super easy if you remember a couple things. First, use a great soldering iron. Don't use a $5 one from Harbor Freight, Walmart, etc. If you do, you'll have trouble with uneven heat, getting too hot (or not hot enough), or the tip simple evaporating/falling apart. Second, use the best solder money can buy. If you don't you'll have trouble melting the solder, or having it stick properly, corrosion will happen instantly, etc etc etc. And the bonus tip is this: Make sure the thing you're trying to solder too is equally hot. This is how/why the solder looks like it sucks right to the pad or contact. If it's not hot enough, you'll have trouble with the solder wanting to stay on it or be 'attracted' to it. When I first started soldering I used subpar equipment and always thought I sucked. Then I finally broke down and splurged and it was like I became a professional overnight.

It's all about the right amount of flux and lead solder. The bigger the gob, the better the job. No joke, though. Flux is what helps your solder stay workable instead of oxidizing and resisting your attempts to melt it.

look for a signal converter from hdmi to scart rgb it does not cost much
@knigfotlets9870
@knigfotlets9870 5 жыл бұрын
@@davidegalliussi1979 heavily depends on the CRT he wants to connect it to. If it doesn't support 720p, like every consumer CRT, you'd have to downscale the image. Using a cheap converter for downscaling would probably result in the same or worse image than the RGB Innovation mod which only costs a third of the GBA Consolizer. In fact it's a waste of money using this mod to play on a CRT. The best way to play GBA on a CRT is getting a GameCube, a Gameboy Player and use GBI to enforce 240p, the Wii U would also be an option if one is ready to softmod it and is ready to give up some games because of compatibility issues and fully give up the ability put the games into a GBA to play on the go. From a cost standpoint this mod is IMO way too expensive anyway. For that money you can almost get a Gamecube+Gameboy Player and an OSSC. And there are a lot of benefits like, you don't have any wait times, since the OSSC is widely available, as is the Gamecube. You also don't need to solder if you don't want to and if you do want to, you can fully assemble an OSSC yourself. You also have the ability to connect a whole lot of other consoles to the OSSC to get proper upscaling for any analog console on any modern TV or monitor you have. This mod is just for enthusiasts who want the best possible picture from the GBA for their modern TVs and with that I mean modern TVs only! If it would provide different resolutions and maybe a proper DAC for outputting RGB this would be another story. But from the product page I can't read anything about different resolutions. Still, the work Woozle put into this is amazing and he deserves every penny people pay for this.

What would you say the performance benefit of this is, if any exist, as opposed to using the Gameboy attachment to the GameCube and running it through the GCHD mkII? I like that I can get SCART output to send to a CRT but the framerate, color, and sharpness of this is undoubtedly nothing short of amazing.

Jason from Gametech US had some trouble with the Plexiglas because he cleaned it with IPA, what causes some cracks. The cracks in your Plexiglas looks very similar. mtoad cant argue with that, there’s no guarantee the converter will deliver better video quality, but another reason i need it is so i can record these games with my capture card, however it doesn’t support AV devices, just HDMI and composite. Which is mostly why i need the converter.

This thing looks so impressive! Got mine preordered, can't freaking wait for it to come in! Seems they are being a bit cheap tho and are waiting for a huge amount of ppl to Preorder so they can order in bulk and get the parts as cheap as possible, making those who have already preordered have to wait. Wish they wouldn't do that but what can ya do? At this rate it will probably be another year before people start receiving their Preorders from this latest batch which is a real shame. Seems they do this with all of the custom stuff as it takes an extremely long time for anything to get shipped. I think they should think about the customers a bit more and place the orders sooner.

The makers of the GBA Consolizer just changed their design which makes installation significantly harder now. The soldering went from an intermediate level to a very advanced level. Keep this in mind if you are thinking about ordering one because most of the build videos online now don't show the new process.

13:25 I'm guessing they don't solder it themselves for legal reasons. Those SNES connectors are probably only meant for repair of official SNES consoles. If they sold the system with one attached, they could be in big trouble with big daddy Nintendo. It's less legally treacherous to just let the end user solder the part on, since Nintendo isn't going to go after people who mod old hardware for personal use.

I know the guy that designed this kit and he owns a OSSC + GB player and I got to sit down in front of both... Although OSSC is not a bad choice, the Consolizer wins hands down by a reasonable margin, mostly due to the perfect scaling, absolutely no signal degradation + extra features such as scanlines, etc. Keep in mind, you flip that power switch and you're playing. On GC you have to do some steps/loading before starting to play.

I got my GBA Consolizer in the mail a couple weeks ago. I was pretty stoked, but in my haste I botched the installation. Couldn't fully remove the oscillator and I wound up lifting a couple pads. It worked briefly but somehow I toasted the video output while reassembling the casing! I hooked the old screen back up to test it, and sure enough it was displaying garbage vertical lines. No idea how I managed that, but I wasn't happy with the work I'd done anyway. Unfortunately I did need to source another GBA, but this morning I redeemed myself. I bought a hot air rework station after my initial failure, and this time around getting the oscillator out was probably the easiest part of the job. Also plotted out my wiring a lot better and slathered plenty of flux all over those solder pads, I did it up right this time! At last I have a fully installed GBA Consolizer and it works perfectly. Time to start a new run through Golden Sun in style, I've been waiting so long for this.

Hey Voultar, how do you think this compares to a NGC with component cables + 5x OSSC using GBi?

But you need to find a GameCube first which has not a abnormal price. Then the Gameboy Player addon and some Software to run the GBA Player.

Hey @Voultar, Is there any kind of wires you can recommend for doing this? I already tried KYNAR and some cheap Wire Wrapping Wire from Amazon, but either the insolation melted away (cheap wire) or it was nearly impossible to remove it without breaking the wire(Kynar).

Holy crap this mod looks awesome, my original childhood GBA screen seems to be ungluing itself? As now there's like a magnifying bulge where the screen is so it's hard to see anything. I'm not sure why it happened considering it's been in it's case most of it's life, could be because I live in a tropical environment. I've never bothered to fix it since I have a backlit SP and micro anyway, but this mod would be a perfect use for it this GBA!

If you look at the "inner" screen of the GBA in the video, it's doing something very similar. The screen has delaminated!

I am glad that you still have this posted. I decied to go back and try to make an adjustment to my gba consolizer because the up button was not reliable. I realized I had a daughter board and decided to try an install with that instead of the flex cable. Works like a charm! Thanks Voultar.

I wonder if in some revision of the case they will add some support on the controller port on the case. I have a couple SNES to USB controllers adapters, that uses the same quality connector, that loves to grab to the controller, and it also doesn't have support on the case, on both it ended breaking the solder joint and the pad.

I'm pretty sure Jason from game-tech agrees with you on the plexi glass quality. He's been promoting it quite a lot on this youtube channel. the GBA is one of my favorite platforms as well. On his video they look all perfect kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4DHdZmDdtugi9E (towards the end with all the different combinations)

Voultar and I think he got some IPA on it while cleaning up from flux and if you look at the plexi at 1m16s and at 2m you can see it looks perfect before install, but I think the next batch of plexi's will be a better material anyway and we may not have this issue (I hope!)

Hi! Just wondering is there a revision guide on the new kit with the flex cable? I really can‘t see ANYTHING on the GameTechs Video. No Zoom-Ins, Pictures … Nothing. I‘ve already ordered it but i am still waiting for someone who actually knows what they are doing to show that new kit off

I am using gamecube with gba attachment. Im just using the s-video connection to the framemiester cuz the component cables cost way to much. really 300+ is outrageous for a simple cable, I understand it's kinda rare. There is a bit of fuzz but other then that it's pretty alright looking. This mod will be alot better. Even extreams was saying just get this if you don't have components. Extreams was telling me all the other hdmi and component options just doesn't like gbi with the extra modes and he said gbiconsolizer is like if gbihf was more complete. insurrectionindustries has a chance with their component, rgb cables coming out but it may be as bad as the other options. Their good for the most part just not gbi and swiss and the weird settings. THe main GBi works alright with the other options, but when it comes to gbihf and gbi sr and the extra settings it doesn't work right. I bet if they added a rgb, component option also people would of loved it for their pvm's. I don't really care i only deal with lcd's anyways. Are you going to have a couple for sale when they start producing more?

I got a gba modded with a 101 screen with regulator for extra brightness. There are some new screens I see. I hear it not the same res screen. there is some upscaling going on but it looks nice anyways.
