That small antenna connector on the portale TV set is the same as an audio jack, where the left channel (the tip of the connector) is the rf signal, and the ground is the same as in audio jacks. Knowing that makes it very simple to build an adaptor.

@@ArnoLouwagie It is also a good idea to connect to ground all the remaining pins (mono jack connectors are usually used for this purpose) to make sure all the contacts on the plug surround the rf signal, therefore they act as electromagnetic shielding.

You can also use HDMI to SDI Micro Converter, from HDMI Cable to Coaxial cable. Make sure to have your TV to channel 3 or 4 like the old days when you hooked your cable box to your analog TV. I have two vcr/DVD combo players: vcr/DVD with antenna in and antenna out and vcr/DVD with no tuners. I hooked my Cox cable out to the antenna in to my vcr model SV2000WV806. Then I used the other coax cable from the antenna out of the vcr model SV2000WV806 to the antenna on my TV. Then I used the same cox cable box hook rca(av)(red, white, and yellow)cable from Cox cable rca output to Funai DV220FX4 rca input. Then I used the Funai DV220FX4 rca output to the rca input on my TV. I hooked both my vcr/DVD players and Cox cable box to the same TV in my room. For my other tvs in the media room and the living I just used HDMI Cable from my cable box. Now I no longer have cable cable TV service, but I still used Cox Internet and Cox phone service since I used the firestick on all my TV. If I had known about HDMI to RCA(SV) and HDMI to SDI, then I would have diss the TV service part from Cox cable a long time ago. You did a great job explaining the conversion.

I still have an old retro Sony 21-inch I use to play my old retro consoles on that I bought new. It had an RG6 F type jack years before Zenith or other American brands offered them. And it was proudly made in Japan and heavy as crap. LOL No component has failed and I have only had to make color adjustments on a component level 3 times. It literally takes 5 minutes to warm up and being an early solid-state component TV, it still used vacuum tubes in the power step-up circuits in the amplifier for the Dolby surround sound. I also refurbish and restore old vacuum tube transceivers.

@ArnoLouwagie
@ArnoLouwagie 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the screen! If you hook this up to something like a computer monitor from the 80s (the ones that could handle 80 columns), it’s possible that you’ll be able to read the text. However, most CRT TVs from this time period don’t have nearly as much detail as CRT computer monitors and you won’t be able to read any fine text. Subtitles? Yes. KZbin logo on the website? Yes. Video titles? Yes. description, comments, etc? Not a chance.

There are rf modulaters that accept HDMI input so you don't need the HDMI to AV converter. This also gets better picture quality since when you convert HDMI to AV you are converting 1080 to 520.

The only downside to CRT TV's is that they emitted more harmful EMF radiation than flat screen, yet still less EMF radiation than any wifi TV. Also CRT is less harmful to eyes & skin than a LED or fluorescent backlit screen. You can shield the inside of the CRT with shielding tape or aluminum screen to keep the electromagnetic radiation from leaking out. I like CRT, I used to repair the old tube type TV's back in the day, new flatscreen TV's are throw away TV's because they are designed to break & not be repairable, just like a light bulb the electronic companies use obsolescence to profit. A good way to clean old circuit boards is to stick them in a dishwasher.

One issue: Aspect ratio. It seems like something is squashing 16:9 content to 4:3 on the KZbin, causing everything to look tall and skinny. If possible, tell your KZbin box that you have a 4:3 screen connected, that should fix it by either becoming proper 4:3 or letterboxed. Unfortunately not all modern devices have this option, but worth a try.

@@ArnoLouwagie I'm doing something similar with a Roku KZbin dongle, I output it to analogue. It has no 4:3 option, so connecting it to a 4:3 TV results in squashing. I'm using it with a wide-screen tv, and for analogue recording. When I have a video from KZbin in 4:3 that I'm really keen on watching on a 4:3 screen, I save it and cut off the black sides if there are any, and then output it through a different device that can play mp4 to analogue out. I have a digital set top box and an older bluray player that can play mp4 and have analogue outputs, it works on either. If any of those players could do KZbin I'd be all set, but they don't do I use this detour.

Yep. Hook the composite video cables up to the VCR (input), put in a tape and press record. You can run additional composite cables (or do it with scart cables if you’re in Europe like me) to your tv if you want to see the picture on the TV set as well. I don’t do this since I can already see the picture on my laptop but if you’re recording off of something without a screen (like an old decoder or something like that) you might want to hook it up to the tv as well lol. You can do the same exact thing but with coaxial cables (RF IN, RF OUT) if your TV set doesn’t have a composite video input. Thanks for watching and have a great day!!

The TV set or all of the equipment I used to convert HDMI to RF? I can’t find a Philips 16CT2016 for sale right now. I saved this one from the recycling center (somebody kindly gave this one to me for free instead of bringing it there). All of the equipment I used to convert the signal was relatively expensive though (around €90-€100 for everything) but that high final price is because I have a relatively new, expensive and high-end RF modulator. You can find other models for much less than what I paid (I paid way too much, around €50, if I remember correctly). Many people still have stuff like this lying around the house as well. You don’t immediately have to buy all of this stuff if you want experiment with old television sets. Check websites (FB marketplace for instance) where they sell secondhand stuff, go to thrift stores or even just ask friends and family members if they have any old equipment that they are willing to give you. Thanks for watching!

WRONG TECHNIQUE WITH THE EHT CAP!!! ...many people have died doing it that way! ...assume that it was just powered off a few hours ago - ALWAYS!!! ...by rights, EHT cap + cable should be changed ...
@ArnoLouwagie
@ArnoLouwagie 7 ай бұрын
RIGHT TECHNIQUE!!!! Did you even watch my video? NO ONE has EVER replaced the flyback transformer (with cap and cable because there’s no practical way to only replace the cable and cap like you said) just to discharge a set. That would actually be incredibly dangerous without first discharging it properly (like me/as seen in this video) I used the correct technique. Everyone from enthusiasts to professionals do it this way and have been for many years. Next time look up ‘’how to discharge a CRT TV’’ before commenting. I really appreciate you trying to protect me and everyone watching this video by saying this but to put it simply, you are just spreading misinformation. Thank you and please stay safe!
