HDPE hatch slides and removing leaky grab rails

Well this is really funny that I found your site because I've been traveling around the United States in a camper and I have been thinking about buying a sailboat funny thing is I've been looking at the 39 1/2 to 40 foot boats which are pretty expensive on my budget but since looking at your videos with your 26-footer you've inspired me that I can sell anywhere I want in a smaller boat and I have really enjoyed your videos and you really have shown were you can two things with less which is great for me because that's how I try to live my life simple but nearly free and from now on when I go to a Jersey Mike's I'll think about you and send up a prayer that you'll stay safe in your travels so thanks for sharing your life stories

Alright, nice work! The hardest part of the project is matching the outside round shape, but your router table worked wonders! I bet you could have done more had it been necessary. The hatch slides on my R23 are new HDPE too, and yes the hatch slides super smooth on the new slides and no varnishing! On my boat, fasteners in the previous slides leaked, potentially causing deck rot, so when installing the new rails I through drilled for the new fasteners, filled with epoxy and screwed the rails in from the bottom. this also provides an extra clean look on top! Your router table worked wonders, I bet you could have done more had it been necessary. Great to see the projects!

Question??? How come there is no waterproofing tape or removable beading used on these tracks? Wouldn’t that help in heavy weather? I noticed there was none under the teak either. Maybe it would help with the inside drip??? Just wondering.

I bought some HDPE tape so I need to disassemble mine this summer and see if I can get it to slide, if I am in the boat it's close to impossible to open the hatch, hope for no fires.

did the tape work out? I would just use the HDPE board, but can't ship to alaska without humongous fees. Worried the stickum on the tape won't hold up.
