justsayin stuff The guy on the sail boat is the father of the two kids, he dies and one of the children dies. “The doctor” is the kids aunt. The man on the beach is the fathers gay lover. When the father dies the surviving child goes and lives with the eccentric aunt who is referred to as “the doctor” in this scene, and male cousin.

The doc was the dad's sister. When the dad and daughter died, the doc (aunt) took custody of Peter and raised him as a girl with the name Angela. it's not that hard to understand.

Sister in law, which is why he called her "Doctor Thomas". Apparently the kid's mother was deceased too. That's why Peter aka Angela went to live with Aunt Martha; next of kin.

@@knv1979 To be fair, later in the podcast Paul does read out Aunt Martha's last monologue and both Jason and June realized that they didn't remember it as well because of the shock of the ending and that it basically answered all of their questions.

I don’t think it’s ever stated if the doc is Angela’s maternal aunt or her paternal aunt. Personally I hope she was a maternal aunt, because this movie is homophobic enough already, and I hate the idea that the gay dad had a crazy horrible sister. That just implies that being gay is the result of coming from a dysfunctional family. Also my headcanon is that the aunt’s husband 100% left her for a man, so she became a huge homophobe, that’s why the man on the shore seems stressed by the doc’s impending arrival and wants the dad to help him hide stuff.

I rewatched the scene in the movie cause I was curious. The doc is the aunt because the girl responds "aunt Martha is coming." I don't think the man on the shore is the aunt's husband because when the little boy asks if ricky is coming the dad says he's spending the weekend with his father. If that guy was his father then he wouldn't be there. he would be with ricky

There's ways to make this theory work -the man on the shore COULD be her husband, just not Ricky's dad… but this would make it unnecessarily complicated, so I lean with the most straightforward theory, that the crazy lady is Angela's paternal aunt.

Early 80 horrors had a lot of "film twists" that left the viewers up to debate. Much like Friday the 13th part 2's "What happened to Paul"? As for Angela (Felissa Rose) here's an interesting quote from her (for those that didn't know) *"- the only thing was my mum wouldn’t allow me to perform the killings (so to speak - you know what I mean). So when you see Angela’s hand - it is actually Jonathan Tierstan (Ricky) which I think is where the online theory came from that he was helping me with killings"*

Man, we just released a Sleepaway Camp video that included HDTGM, Sleepaway Camp, trite this way & At The Waterfront After The Social: The Legacy Of Sleepaway Camp.... we almost pulled a clip from this (even though it didn't match) then choose against it. The Dad's gay lover was married to the Doctor. She lost her mind after her husband came out of the closet after the disaster because of guilt and trauma of his lover's death. She could not have been crazy this whole time and gotten through medical school with the level of batshit craziness we witness later.
