So I have been a Christian for about 5 years now and I know this song is true because God never left even when I wanted to leave him behind. This is why I'm so thankful that I have a lot of great Christian influences who help pull me back when I feel he's leaving me. i see this as when you lose someone they are always with you no matter what, ive lost my big brother and my best friend, both during combat in iraq / afghanistan. I was with my friend when he died, but both of them i can still hear in my head. When times get hard both of them are there pushing me through it like they would if they were still around. WHen you lose someone they remain with you and you can't let them go no matter what keep them close even if they are not here in body.

Thankfully not all Christians treat others differently. I am a Christian but I treat others with the respect they deserve. I have been a victim of that kind of treatment for so many reasons and I hated it. I know people of other religions and it does not bother me since I told them to keep religion and politics out of the friendships.
