He can feel affection for someone but not lust, he can be mad at someone but not hate someone etc. This has to do with the areas in his brain responsible for strong emotions being overworked/replaced. His mother did this out of love for her children, and the price she had to pay was terrifying.

Tatsuya's speed is actually faster than most since he can instant cast spells using pre-loaded spell sequences that he has memorized. I think it is more in the way that he uses his magic is so different that it cannot be measured because the tools are not designed to measure what he is doing (writing the spell sequence on the fly).

Speed in this anime is the speed a mage is able to go through the steps in order to cast magic, not unlike a super computer translates data to create in this case actual changes to the world. "modern magic" and "traditional magic" is broken down, and honestly modern seems to be better in case of speed, scale and power, while traditional magic is in terms of "weird" and other special types. Tatsuya is a traditional type, his problem is that his inherent magic is so powerful, it takes up half of his brain capacity each, and in order to use magic at all his mother installed an computer chip in his brain, which made him lose all emotion. except for his sister...

​@big frank fraser, it's more like what he is good at is so special it doesn't really make sense to the rest of the world as he isn't able to cast "magic" he is only able to destroy and create. Thus he is unbeatable as he can destroy people's spells and bodies while creating or restoring his allies. He is unable to alter or change spells thus he has no magical ability in the way the world thinks of magic. As if for example fireball is the most simple spell anyone who can't cast it would be thought to be unable to cast magic. This is where if finds himself completely unable to cast anything besides from the ultra specific "spells" he is able to use. Which aren't even really spells he simply breaks down the spell to nonexistent. He basically has only the delete key and undo key on a computer in world where everyone judges you on how fast you can type a sentence.

He can create any magic that he can see and understand the spell sequence for or write his own to create a desired effect (like snapping his finger to create an ultra-sonic boom that blows out an eardrum). Most people can't just build a spell sequence as quickly as he can. They use preloaded spell sequences and train to memorize how to initiate and utilize the spell sequence effectively. Since almost no one can build their own sequence in such a short time (Tatsuya can do it near instantly for some spells to a few seconds for others), the measure used is how fast someone can initiate and control preloaded spell sequences, which Tatsuya is not good at. An example would be taking the world's best computer programmer and having them initiate a script that is already built. Almost everyone else would just input the command to initiate and work out the functions to do what they want. But the best programmer has to analyze the entire script and adjust it before he can initiate it and since it is someone else's code, he isn't as good at the functions installed. Now if they recognize this and basically gave Tatsuya a blank slate and instructions on what they want accomplished, he could write the entire sequence and initiate it without much of a problem. At least that is how I understood it.

Honestly if I was in his place at the first chance I would destroy this family with a smile on face his mother and his aunt made him a cyborg without teaching whom the whole family despises and even denied him that he is not her son they took everything from him it's a pity that this anime isn't like that :(

Yeah that’s fair but still in manga I think I read that his mom and aunt tried to make him able to use magic because, without magic he will be looked down more and being from the Yotsuba clan he will go through worse. And the experiment made him lose many emotions and well as his mother also losing all sorts of affection for him as well.

​@@teamspirit5186 the experiment didn't make him lose his emotions. Tatsuya has the power to destroy the world. They can not afford his feelings and magic getting out of control. So his mom got rid them using mental interference magic. She has use this same magic on Maya.

No, if you were in his place you would not do that. In the first place, you would have no urges that would compel you to do things. Destroying his family would go counter to what he wishes for, precisely because it would sadden his sister.
