Definitely NOT my style although I liked many items and areas of the property ie the bathrooms, that Mondrian comforter, the outdoor building blocks. and more! Also, BIG KUDOS to them for their appreciation and value of history and maintaining/restoring the original character of the structure and furnishings!!! That was A LOT of hard work, elbow grease, and love!!! The whole place is a testament to creativity and imagination! FANTASTIC work Skewville couple!!!

Me 40 years ago... I was me and did my own stuff... I still do at 71... When my Rose, My Spouse died I decorated in dark colored furniture, adding plants and color to the walls and setting... When people asked about the dark furnishings... I told them to look around, I placed light with dark... That's how my heart felt💔❤️

FYI: Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, after 1906 known as Piet Mondrian; 7 March 1872 - 1 February 1944), was a Dutch painter and art theoretician who is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He is known for being one of the pioneers of 20th-century abstract art, as he changed his artistic direction from figurative painting to an increasingly abstract style, until he reached a point where his artistic vocabulary was reduced to simple geometric elements. He proclaimed in 1914: "Art is higher than reality and has no direct relation to reality. To approach the spiritual in art, one will make as little use as possible of reality, because reality is opposed to the spiritual. We find ourselves in the presence of an abstract art. Art should be above reality, otherwise it would have no value for man."

Mondrian's work and its imitators used to be everywhere in the 60s, including clothing. Homes used to be so much more colorful than the "sophisticated" neutrals of today. Red kitchens were all the rage in the 1950s including chairs like these in the store. It brought us out of, as said in Evita, "the postwar haze." I think people were thrilled to have survived the Great Depression and two world wars. Party, party.

He's a real old school New Yorker! America's accents are disappearing, and everyone's starting to talk with a brainless California accent now. I beyond love those old kitchens. I would've done something like this, had I stayed in my old apartment. I love when people at least remake original architectural details.
