I'm currently caring for my 103 year old WWII veteran grandfather. It is a true honor and a privilege to help provide home hospice along with family support for such a great man. This is not a knock against the current generations because I am nearly 41 years old myself and among you, but my grandfather's generation was just built with a different mindset in an entirely different era of time. They simply don't build men like him anymore and it is a stark realization in real time. We have become distracted by the trivial and that is why a man like Harley Race wouldn't be able to work in today's wrestling format. That need for instant gratification is a shame because great things take time to develop and it only hurts the end product.

Your grandfather sounds like an incredible man, I’m sure when he was over in Europe or the Pacific he never thought he’d see 103. We are the same age & my grandfather is 90. He’s a former USMC & professional boxer. You’re absolutely correct the men of their day were far tougher & just a different breed. Respect to you for caring for your grandpa, I am sure he greatly appreciates it & you’ll be happy you spent this time with him.

God bless your grandfather and I thank him for his service. My grandfather was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was badly burned. 6 months later he reinlisted and was on board the USS Missouri when Japan surrendered

I remember seeing Harley in Eldon, Missouri close to his wrestling school around 2007 or so. Time and age had started to take their toll, but even so, he still had that air about him that said if you got close enough he could still grab you and break something important.
@Azhalan2 сағат бұрын
No matter who you ask, the 80s and early 90s wrestlers all tell in their interviews that they had lots of respect for Race. Meaning they where all mortally afraid of him. Listening to those stories, I always get the impression they are talking about organized crime, not entertainment wrestling.
@ludicrous70445 сағат бұрын
Harley will do ANYTHING to win a fight! He doesn't seem to feel pain!! Seen him miss a head butt on a table! The freakin table broke in half!! He was carried off unconscious bleeding but that's the way he thinks! The Undertaker says if you wrestle him you will be sore for a week!🤕

Henry Godwinn! Wow! Awesome
@mikem1048156 минут бұрын
My favourite Harley Race story was that he was on the road with another wrestler, and they stopped at a diner to get something to eat. A guy came in with a gun and demanded everyone's wallets and watches, etc. Harley continues eating. The gunman demands Harley hand over his money. Harley without looking at the gunman said "Fuck Off." The gunman demanded again and Harley stood up, grabbed the gun before pulling out his own and said, "I said Fuck Off!!" The guy ran out so fast.
@kevthegoat87746 минут бұрын
He also knocked a guy out for hitting a girl then ended up getting st@bbed by the man's friend, there's a newspaper article about it and he was like 20/21 when this happened. Also the story of him slapping Jumbo Tsuruta for suplexing Flair multiple times, Jumbo just accepted it and he wasn't no slouch as he was a Greco Roman Wrestling Olympian!

Hope I'm not late to this! I've been a huge Undertaker fan since the early 90s. More of a fan of him than guys like Hogan. I went to WrestleMania 24 and watched The Undertaker beat Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship. Also back in toe 90s, I saw the Undertaker clean house on the Nation of Domination at a house show in San Diego, I think in 1994 or 1995! I also got to meet Kane in San Diego at a meet & greet at Best Buy in 2005 before Taboo Tuesday, where he signed an old WWE magazine with the Brothers of Destruction holding sledgehammers on the cover! My birthday comes up on September 30th, and I would be so stoked to win the Urn, because I never got to meet The Undertaker while he was active, and this would be THE wrestling treasure for me!

With Harley, Haku and Barbarian, I would think the guy to complete the legit badass foursome is Bad News Allen.
@kevthegoat877423 минут бұрын
My foursome of legitimate badasses would be Danny Hodge, Haku, Harley Race and Tracy Smothers. Danny Hodge was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion, Professional Boxer, Three time NCAA Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist. There was probably very few men on the planet that could have beaten him in the 50's-60's.
@davidwilliamdanielthomas93053 минут бұрын
@@kevthegoat8774 Very cool. Danny Hodge was legendary for his toughness and he was JR's #1 choice as the toughest guy to ever lace up a pair of boots. JR said that Hodge was born was a mutation of having tendons twice as thick as a normal male, which gave his freakish strength, especially grip strength. I wonder if Lou Thesz or Bruno would make the cut? Back then, guys had to know how to shoot to survive. Now, you could add guys like Ken Shamrock, Don Frye, Dan Severn and Steve Blackman who were all legit MMA badasses.
Thank you mark sir for giving me memories love from india ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I think Taker is incorrect that fans wouldn't enjoy the slower older style. A decent example of that more methodical style imo in FTR. I just don't think alot of guys nowadays could work that style is the real issue.

@@TheMasterofDisaster48 Never going to be an ideal list. Danny Hodge obviously a bad ass mofo,,,but size? The others way bigger. Plus Sheiky is my favourite wrestler of all time, I literally cried when he died. He was a bad ass, but he was widely reported to have been schooled by Billy Robinson in a shoot.

@@AndrewisaLoser-bh4xe Schooled my nutts. From what I heard, Sheik had outwrestled Robinson during a freestyle wrestling shoot which frustrated Robinson. Robinson retaliated in the next one by injuring Sheik's leg. We're talking about an olympic wrestler here, thats above Robinson's league. JR said that Danny Hodge and Iron Sheik were two toughest wrestlers he's ever seen and that guy has been in the wrestling business since the 70's. Haku who's considered to be the "be all end all" toughest wrestler have said Danny Hodge was the toughest wrestler.

@@AndrewisaLoser-bh4xeDanny Hodge was 190-200 pounds when he was wrestling professionally but even back in his amateur days he was able to takedown and control Heavyweights, Bob Roop who was a Greco Roman Olympian talked about wrestling Danny and said Hodge took him down, Roop said Hodge could take anyone down with a single leg and said he'd be able to take André down too. Hodge had the amateur wrestling skills, boxing skills and insane pain tolerance/grip strength. Bruiser Brody, Bob Sweetan and Dick Murdoch all found out the hard way what happens if you mess with Hodge.
