Three clueless teenagers between the ages of 15-17 talking about being in love yet not being in love. 🤣 i. QiQi has sound advice yet does not take her own advice when in a relationship. ii. Shaoshang just having broke off her first engagement and to be suddenly engaged to another immediately after besides being unsure about her feelings towards her current fiancé as he is understandable cool but firm with her most of the time. iii. Yang Yang being the typical teenager and letting her parents decide her future without even considering her own feelings.

ii. the first engagement was not Shaoshang's fault. It was the Emperor's edict. During those times, marriages between clans are complicated matters- so much so that it was a norm to arrange it between parents. sometimes they involve the matchmakers and even fortune tellers in the mix. I agree that she was truly unsure of her feelings with Ling Buyi, because she doesn't have love feelings yet. With Lou Yao, it was platonic because it was her first time to have an "ally" from the opposite sex (that is why her mother was very against it, besides the impending prejudice NN will suffer with Yao's uncle's family) and with LB, it's mostly being scared of his imposing manner. It was LB (and mostly men) who have the love connection and women, are powerless to go against the wishes of their elders. III: yang yang is basically submissive by nature, but has a crush with yuan shenjian-- which she will keep it to her grave . ==== in fine, i think their discussions were valid.

@@maitaadriano3159 you don't need to teach me about arranged marriages, I am of chinese descent whose ancestors had arranged marriages some even married aged 12. I still live in the same village that the arranged marriages took place which the practise ceased in the 1970s. It does not matter how Shaoshang felt about Lou Yao he was her first everything (first crush / like / love (take it as a person in ancient times not today), first engagement no matter how she felt for him she was still crushed / embarrassed that her engagement was broken (by right no man or his family in those times would propose marriage to her again because there must be something wrong for an engagement to be broken) no matter if it was the order of the majesty or a family disaster a broken engagement is a big taboo for a unmarried women regardless of background. Shaoshang's mother is a controlling woman she just got back from the war and does not even know her own daughter exacting strict rules and punishments assuming her daughter is like a soldier, for her own selfish reasons she did not want Shaoshang to marry because mother & daughter were recently reunited besides the fact she felt shaoshang is too immature (which is valid) to be married thus she was against BOTH marriage proposals. as for yang yang she is just playing the role of a typical filial daughter of those times.

@@chubbybear99 You say take it as a person in ancient times, but we aren't there now, and neither are you. Just because you have the cultural background doesn't mean you understand it. No offense. I never got crush vibes from Shaoshang towards Lou Yao. He liked her a lot, and she realized he was a) just a good dude, and props to him for it, but also b) easy for her to control. She wasn't in love with him. She felt security with him because he didn't have anything over her like other people-- she didn't really care if he loved her or not. She was afraid of Ling Buyi because she was into him, and that meant that he could hurt her if he abandoned her like everyone else whose love she'd ever wanted.

@@IzzyKawaiichi I don't get offended easily but i find the replies to my comments as out of context. it does not matter whether I am living in a village which practise all these old fashioned arrange marriages or marrying an animal for the sake of saving face. i just comment on what i see - 3 actors portraying teenagers having a discussion on what they like in a guy, what they don't like in a guy & what they think a guy should do or behave. then i get smart asses teaching me about arrange marriages when my comment has no mention of such. i just summarise what i see in the particular scene in question if you such as the previous commenter are not happy with my comment just write you own long winded comment for others to reply to about things that are not portrayed in these series based on what you think should be or what should have been added into the series.

She dont like Lou Yao..she was comfortable with him,because he is weak.and let SS do whatever she wants..they can drink together,and so on.while LBY do not drink with her but took care of her when she is drunk and messing up...She is more heartbroken the fact that they can not runaway from their family anymore ..
