A musician tends to forget that most of the people listening are there to be entertained. They are not practiced in music, can't play or carry a tune. They just want to escape for a while. They are not expecting perfection. This is a very honest and open interview.

I started watching Dovydas well before the pandemic. His lockdown performances every night were magic. That guy would go for 3+ hours. He's tuned in to what he's doing and has a unique perspective on his business and how he reacts to the feedback. I can only wonder what the future holds for him.

What I've learned is that unless you stop in the middle of a performance or just totally are in the wrong key, people cannot tell. If you play with confidence, 99% of audiences will think you're kickin' butt and taking names, lol. So yeah there's definitely something to just trying to make the audience have a good time and feel good.

Honestly, I have a lotta fun playing small venues and recording everything from commercials to playing opening theme songs to radio or TV shows and I wanted to be a rockstar but I'm not willing to do some of what I know firsthand people expect you to do, like bending the knee in more than one way of you catch my (Diddy) drift, lol, or dive headfirst into the darkness! It ain't worth it for me to do that!

He's got the right perspective and attitude. It's a different day and age and you have to adapt. I always think of myself as an entertainer first and guitarist second. Or something like that. It's no longer good enough to simply be a great guitarist unless you want to get lost in the shuffle. And, I'm quite happy with the way things are now. If this was still the 80s/90s, a guy my age with no hair would have zero chance at any kind of audience or success.

I have to admit that I am 45 and yet never even thought of the genius notion he describes here as somehow I always realized that music was a form of entertainment but never really associated music as entertainment as like he describes perfectly here we are too worried about musicianship that other musicians rate us at instead of focusing on the bigger picture of just entertaining the audience with sloppy mistakes, humor and providing a good memory, genius philosophy from him

Thanks for the video max and dov. I been following for years and I appreciate all the content and motivation you both give others. I recently decided to start playing some solo gigs and getting my name out there. Its really big shift and the key thing is about the metaphorical ruler and usually our own self that holds us back. It doesn't have to be perfect note for note. Its more interesting how one recovers and carries on. The show must go on and can't stop and start over like in your living room on a wrong chord. I just send it and let the feeling take over. Its been going great and most people are enjoying as well. Thanks

That guy has the right idea... Go out and have fun playing and dont worry about mistakes cause You need to make mistakes in front of people. Go out and create Life Experiences. It is far better to make mistakes in front of the smallest crowd than to sit in your bedroom practicing worried that your not good enough yet. If ya dont do it now, your probably not gonna do it at 30. Go out and conquer the world

This video is excellent. I am currently 69 😮. And I have always just liked to perform live exclusively. I never cared about a record deal or any of that stuff. I feel that I am a rockstar just without all the notoriety which comes with it because of the area I live in Laredo Texas. Here people like to listen to what's called tejano cumbia s, corridos n polkas. People here like to drink beer barbeque dance and party. It's not easy to make it here as a rock band. However, social media has been a breath of fresh air. Initially I was only singing. I started playing guitar some times later and committing along on the instrument. I must say that U tube and videos like this one are valuable and encouraging. Thus I have part in both worlds. I don't think there's anything better than having a band and having other people playing together with you. But from what you guys shared on the video I understand that there is a greater audience out there on social media to tap into but it doesn't stop there. It's great to have people like you guys help out along the way. I appreciate the insight and encouragement people like yourselves provide along the way. Thanks a bunch. Keep up the good work... Respectfully Ray Garcia

Music has come a long way since the birth of rock and all the genres that spawned since, well like the 50's. Back then it was about gettin' together with other musicians, playing, writeing songs, and showcaseing your talent through shows or concerts and albums. Then around 15 or so years later, movies of bands and music festavals became the new thing. Along with that you see an increase of theatrics like lights, pirotechnics, and rock opras until the 80's when M-TV hit. through the 80's and into th mid 90's. you saw a decrease in bands do to the up-comeing increase in digital recordings and autotune. Now with the internet, you can see shows on youtube, lisson to music, and watch guy's like you. The evolution of music and bands have come a long way. I personally would like to see more bands develope and make music and albums the old way. Like Joe Walsh wrote about being an analog man in a digital world. Digital music is fine for folks who appreciate sterile music. I for one like the intimacy and imperfict analog versons of music of day's gone by. until the time comes when we all evolve into robots, I'll still remain an analog man like Joe... Stay cool and keep pushin on brother... Peace from Creel Chihuahua, Mexico...

This is very inspirational, I come from a structured musicial background (just like Dovydas glossed over) and he's very right. There is a unit of measurement we're taught in the beginning where things have to be precise and whatnot. I love watching guys like yourself, or Richard James, and Dovydas. I struggle to find the path I wanna take too and youtube seems like a fun option but the anxiety of posting something "not up to par" is very real and a barrier I also struggle pushing past 🤘🏻🤘🏻 I'm a big fan, hopefully I can stand amongst the giants one day myself 🤘🏻🤘🏻

He makes some very valid points. As a musician it's easy to be a critic of others but also be you own worst enemy. However we're only a small percentage of viewers and most non-musos will be able to appreciate something in your playing even if you aren't a pro, because they see those other dimensions he mentioned more easily than we do. YT and all social media is about engagement, but the content kind of takes second place. Provided you can see that as a creator it will open your perspective on making better content.

Birds of a feather flock together. Let the haters hate. I respect channels that just keep it real. If that means actually caring about people in an honest way? I should hope more channels follow this path. You can definitely feel a shift in the way many guitar channels are trying to connect with viewers. Putting out content with actual value to it, instead of just pushing this weeks GAS items. People will inevitably get bored of continously buying more gear. And decide to figure out how some of the stuff actually works? How many channels honestly sit down and explain in detail how they themselves use said piece of gear? How many? A handfull at best. Too much gear. Not enough learning how to use it. Peace!

I truly believe we have it better now. The "rockstar" days are fun to look back on but we have to remember a ton of those men and women were heavily exploited by the record industry. I mean Jimi Hendrix died broke ffs and a lot of the 80s guitar heroes had awful record deals. I think the modern ability to take the reigns of your own creative career and publish content in its various forms and your own music is amazing. Working musicians can do pretty amazing making content and building a community of supportive subscribers to supplement their income. Then the musicians are only beholden to people that willingly support them, instead of a ruthless business machine.
