The truth? He other swimmer clearly broke a rule. You are not allowed to cross into another swimmer's lane during a race. People may have issues with the rule but the refs can't pick and chose how to enforce them. The swimmer should have known the rule or he just chose to ignore it. Either way, he broke the rule as it was written.

If there are rules that need addressing, doing something like this will cause people to examine it for potential change. He complained that the rule was stupid, not specifically the penalty. He said he wouldn’t take the podium, or the accolades not because he disagrees with competitors being penalised rules are broken, but because some rules are plainly unfair. You guys aren't getting it. Swimmers have been trying to get this ridiculous rule stricken for years. People have been DQ for accidentally tipping over the line with their fingers while looking up to see the score after the finish. Once the race is completely over and has been called... Then there is no more need for the rule anyway, which is when most of these major upsets take place. The other excuse for protecting people's feelings by not allowing celebration is also a ridiculous modern fallacy that needs to go. Good sportsmanship is also about being happy and celebrating with your fellow competitor, as well as supporting those that lost and wishing them the best next time.

As an ex competitive swimmer he is 100000% right! All year you work for this moment and for years you train with a friend and a rival. TO have a moment like this is rare truly blessed to celebrate with your friends/rival like this.

what if that person still swimming was also going for something equally great for him, that he himself worked really hard for? a personal best? overcoming an obstacle of some kind, and the winner thought his win was more important than that and he could break the rule? it was an unsportsmanlike act and the right call was made. Change the rule for next year that says if you win you are allowed to interfere with other athletes still swimming.

Shame the guy who won the race did not have respect for the other swimmers as he should have not jumped into the other lanes until everyone had finished the race which is only normally a few seconds. He could have stopped others from getting their spots in that race and they also trained all year round. Shame on him there are rules for a reason.

Standing up for one who was fairly disqualified. A swim rule that has existed for decades. This guy just wants his friend to shine. But he's saying "fuck the rules let my buddy score" also he'd still get second so his team would secure 1st and second hence more points. So yeah not sportsmanship

I guess it's because the others are going for 2nd, 3rd, etc and they should have a chance to get their place without obstruction but this is way way out of line. The dude impacted didn't care, they were too strict

@@SiskoSvKthe guy who finished 2nd was his teammate and they were celebrating together. When he actually crossed into the other lane he they had both been done for some time. If anyone else was still swimming they shouldn’t have been in the race to begin with. He didn’t affect the outcome or performances of any of the other athletes in any way. There is a think called letter of the law and spirit of the law. This is a case where any sensible person with half a brain would understand that spirit of the law should be in play.

@@SiskoSvKit's a 1 mile race. He was 50 seconds ahead of the last place finisher. He wasn't in just anyone's lane. He was in his teammate's lane and they were celebrating coming in 1-2.. He didn't start at NC state as the top swimmer in this event. He WORKED HIS WAY TO IT. It's just horrible judgment on the referee. Terrible terrible judgment. It just can't happen this way. This has to be appealed and turned over.

I don't know if that diamond on their chest is something that the competition put on them but if that's a tattoo those two are very closely linked either by team or by friendship. I would say it looks like a tattoo only because on his right side of his chest he has a hollow or just border of a diamond and it's not shaded in. I don't know the significance of the diamond I never competed in swimming nor have I ever followed it outside of a couple races when the Olympics are in swing. I know that they do that for Endurance Sports like triathlons and cycle races along with some long distance running competitions.

No one was impacted or harmed and the race was not altered in any way shape or form. The only leg you have to stand on is "Its a rule". You lack and critical thinking about morality and are a worker ant drone who cant tell left from right unless someone told you first so you knew what the rule was.

Imagine paying for your 6 year old son or daughter to swim in a race against their friends, only to have a meet official come up and make them understand what disqualification means and that their race didn’t mean anything and in fact they came in last place and to try better next time and made them cry. No different from that to what happened at this college level sporting event. Officials are mean spirited jerks. 🤷♂️
