I went from a PCP to HW springers. I prefer the simplicity and reliability from a HW springer and i,m happy i can skip all the tralala around a PCP.

I started off sub 12 ft/lb springer/rams and PCPs and decided FAC big bore pneumatics and FAC springers including HW80 and gas rams are the way forward. I have 5 so far, due to COVID delays,band by the end of 2023, I'll have 12 in total.

Hi gentlemen and thankyou for your revue of the 80, I enjoyed it and your passion too. I'm sure you are the same, in looking after your belongings, as I am too. I was surprised to see the shoulder strap fixed to your barrel on your 80, especially being previously owned by a gunsmith. However, the gunsmith may have been of the opinion that barrel pivot was made heavy enough to cope with the load and not risk barrel wobble. I understand the break barrel pivot is a male and female, flat head bolt, which can easily be tightened where it to come loose. For example, the meteor, different level I know, was like a rivot and much more difficult to rectify. Great respect to the gunsmith, I wouldn't attach a shoulder sling there. I carefully fitted sling attachments under the fore end, but far enough away from the cocking lever cut out. I purchased an SA 80 rifle strap, and the section of the strap which goes over the shoulder, cut it out and re joined in seat belt strapping, to disperse the eighties weight. I find that works for me. I'd love to hear your opinions. Good luck and take care.

I don't think the hw80 was ever intended to replace the hw35 it was more of an alternative to the FWB sport and the Original (diana) mod 45 the beeman shaped version you have there replaced the original hw80mk1 which in my opinion is far better looking than the beeman type stock you have there. So essentially you have an 80mk2. All great guns of course as they have the same action. I would ditch the brass asap and order some original parts and a set of original open sights to make it look as it should and add value. Tbt kits are good. No need for a pcp with such a good self contained hunting rifle.😎

I once owned an HW35 (Lost to a house fire), but have owned an HW80 and the HW95 for quite a few years. A fine tuned HW80 - although heavy - is one heck of an accurate, virtually silent rifle, but while I think the HW95 equals it for accuracy, it definitely beats it in terms of heft when out for a wander. As well as if shooting from standing and kneeling positions. My preference is HW80 if shooting from a hide and the HW95 when on walkabout. Paired with a decent scope and a lot of practise, you could invest in either rifle and you'll seldom need another, unless heading down the pcp route for the obvious increased rate of fire, but springers remain virtually bomb proof and trouble free..... Especially if investing at a reasonable price level where overall parts quality genuinely makes a very real difference in relation to consistency, accuracy and retained re-sale value. 🙂

Yep me to an advocate of the HW80. I had a mk1 in 1983 with the angular stock at the front (very collectible now) and regret selling it. I now have a newer mk2 hw80k with tbn kit fitted with the reduced cocking stroke and it runs at 11.44 ftlbs, is silky smooth to cock and fire and recoil is almost non existent. I will never sell it.

Yes Beeman retailed HWs in the USA with the Beeman name on them , if I mind right one of the most unusual Beeman's was a straight stocked HW80k , maybe even a Webley Vulcan , can't honestly remember.

In the UK with 12 sub ft-lb restriction it has no use to buy a HW80. The HW95 will be a better choice. The 80 is a rifle that should deliver it's full potential. My 80K is in .25cal and a beast.

Mine is an Beeman R1 carbine in .20 cal. I try to shoot it at least 15-20 times every day down in the basement. I bought it new about seven years ago, and after a few hundred shots it blew the piston seal because of a manufacturing defect. I sent it to John in PA to have him repair it and detune it. He worked with Vortek to come up with a solution, and then buttoned the piston and some other stuff that he works his magic on. Now the rifle shoots JSB`s at an average of 673 fps, with an ES of 4 fps. I shoot at 13 yards in the basement and it will shoot group after group that are basically the same hole. It is much easier to cock, which is what I wanted the most, and is a pleasure to shoot. Once in a while I use it to shoot a squirrel, and it puts the pellet exactly where needed in the old noggin. There is a good reason that these are considered to be heirloom rifles, my rifle will be a true joy to me for my lifetime, and then on to the next person for their lifetime.

Pimping a HW80 with gold plated trigger guard, safety pin and brass screws makes it in my opinion cheap looking air rifle, but of corse it's a question of taste. Not my cup of tea.

Those mk1 stocks with the angular Fore end are quite sought after, made of walnut rather than beech too i think? A well looked after 35E will hold its value well, but as for overall rarity Its the Vixen editions that can fetch a good chunk of money.
@muskett4108
@muskett4108 2 жыл бұрын
There are a few air rifles that can be pimped with brass. The HW80, and HW77, but others HWs possible. Preferably a custom, or tune kit fitted. Brass being trigger guard, trigger, safety catch, with stock screws optional. Deluxe stock, or better still after market custom stock with some figuring. Brass pretty yuck on anything else. Someone put some thought and investment in your example. Few shotgun gunsmiths know their beans when it comes to air rifles. They just think they do.
@50caliber29

HW80 (R1) was never intended to replace the HW35. The HW80 was developed in conjunction with Beeman who wanted what he called a "Magnum Air rifle". It was developed in isolation & not to replace any HW model. To reach the Magnum level it has a bigger piston tube diameter with associated bigger & heavier piston & more swept volume. The HW80 has to be restricted for UK use & is barely ticking over at 12ft lbs. I prefer my Webley Longbow, lighter, Walther barrel, carbine length & so accurate, trigger very close to the Record. Best BB Webley released & designed in conjunction with Venom. Longbow is better than the HW95 (95 is not that good a rifle TBH, 99S is better if you are lucky enough to get one that doesn't gaul).
