My son was a grip (electrician) on this film. A very very underrated Robert Rodriguez, James Cameron film, destined to be a scifi classic, I think. Not enough was done to promote this film, I think, and people didn't hear about it until it went to streaming.

they wont cause the first one was to clost to a bomb for what it had cost to make it . Movies like this are extremely expensive to produce and even more if you hire high paid popular actors . This one had low wages actors and the cost of the movie was 200 millions for a 400 million box office because of how expensive special effects are which is not good at all for such an expensive to produce movie . For comparaison Captain Marvel cost was 175 million but it made 1,1 billion dollars at the box office so that movie was a total success and thats why they are planning a sequel and even re-hire Brie Larson to reprise her role even if some people hated her for what she said at the Ammys. And they know already that people will still rush to see the sequel no matter what and that it wont bomb . New concept movies like Alita never get a sequel if they are to clost to bombing specially with such an expensive budget being injected into it .

Wrong! The anime OVA and manga it's based on is from the 90's not the 80-70's like you're implying. The manga is called Gunnm (which means Gun Dream in Japanese)by Yukito Kishiro.
