He Found Freedom By Switching to Regenerative Agriculture (Squeeze Citrus)

Herb spent 40 years working for a large chemical manufacturing company as a chemical engineer. He successfully created, marketed, and distributed, a fungicide that can be bought to this day. However, after his retirement he has found a new line of work adjacent to his professional career; creating a regenerative and purely organic procedure for southern US citrus. His goal is to raise healthy and productive citrus trees without the use of any artificial or man made additive that outcompetes the nutrient profile of common commercial growers.

Love both Gabe Brown and Ray Archuleta! I've got several other heros of Regenerative: John Kempf, Dr. Elaine Ingham, and Matt Powers. Lots of wisdom being shared. I find there are always modifications for climate, and crop species. But the principles are solid science.

Excellent interview. Both of you. Have either of you heard of Advanced Eco Agriculture (AEA)? They did an 18 month trial in Fla and completely remedied HLB citrus greening on 300 acres using the regenerative approach. It fell on deaf ears. You appear to be using same scientific techniques. Thanks so much. I would LOVE poultry to add to the soil microbiology. My challenge is that commercial fruit can't have animals witihin 90 days of harvest and my harvest season may be 4-5 months. That only "allows" animals for about a 4 month window. I've even consider a "lamb tractor" but not sure I could manage the input and the short interval. Herb

Other than crowd funding I’m not sure there too much opportunity at the moment. However, I believe that is changing! Hopefully.

Yours and mine both!! I've applied for a USDA Grant (waiting) just for the analysis of my fruit vs. conventional fruit. The visual, taste and aroma differences are startling. The analysis will run over $1,000 per sample. I'm searching for funding sources. Running an orchard for four years from startup is costly. I believe the industry NEEDS the data of Nutrient Density to give Regenerative Organic the validation it deserves.

I don't understand why he does not plant more species in between. Like flowers to bring in pollinators and beneficial bugs to attack the bad ones. Also make that open landscape more diverse some plants will even increase the fertility on the soil in different ways also look at nature there is never just one type of plant on the landscape. I thing the cover crops are great but I dont think that's enough with some of the problems he's having. Food for thought.

I think there are many parts of farming (conventional, regenerative, and everything in between) that can be misunderstood. We just need to keep talking to each other and share our information.
