As people discover this woman, they call her the 1920s answer to Cardi B. I think people should stop trying to place historic singers like Ms. Bogan in boxes like that. Yes, Lucille Bogan said, "You can f*** my c**k or suck my c**k or leave my c**k alone...". But that is precisely WHY she should not be placed on a shelf with Cardi B.!
By doing that, you are effectively taking away her legendary status and calling her "Just another dirty singer". Not realizing that without her, not only would the way for Cardi, Nicki, Megan, and Lizzo not have been paved, but another legend like Prince probably wouldn't have existed on the scale that he did. Have you listened to his music before the Purple Rain days?
Now, I'm telling you how I discovered Lucille Bogan's existence and why I think she should be brought more into the forefront of people's consciousness. Then, I will link a couple of creators who have inspired me. One will play you some of her songs. The other went into the trenches and probably found out more about Lucille Bogan than I've ever heard before. After you watch this, go watch them and tell them This is Rosie!!! sent ya!
So, the style of this video surprised me as much as it probably did you. I had to download Clipchamp to my computer because the old video editor just... wasn't there anymore. It's gonna take some getting used to, but I hope my videos gradually get better as I try to adapt to this new style. One of these days, I want to get the Premium version for better effects.

The lady's music was pretty filthy. Moreso than Memphis Minnie, or Harry Roy, who merely made suggestive double entendres. Luceil's lyrics were frank and honest. I would have crossed the tracks to sit in a smoky dive to hear her, even if a honky like me was made to feel uncomfortable, or unwelcome. We should be grateful that someone open minded took the chance to record her for us. The music of this era transports me to another time. This is American history singing to us. Keep up the good work, Rosie.

Aww, thank you so much! I love Ms. Lucille's music. I giggle when I hear it because it's so dirty and I blush every time. Even as an erotica writer, that woman said things I never would have thought of. Thank you so much for watching and commenting, and I'll do my best! Thank you so much for your encouragement!

Hi Rosey, You are right in that Lucille Bogan should be remembered and someone out there must know her descendants in order to get the book/ film started. I stumbled upon this upload today, and was delighted to hear the lyrics and the quality of her blues vocals, which are pure, and unalloyed with inferior stylistic tricks. I have been listening to this music for seventy years, and my record collection is mostly pre-vinyl 78rpm relics, which I handle with utmost care as I am merely the custodian of these masterpieces, and one day I hope that someone after I have passed over will take care of them and play them to other people who are interested in true human culture of the highest quality. Bless You, I have subscribed to your channel and I wish you well, keep up the great work.

Rosey, talkin like this has always been common place, there are dirty songs from the Medieval period, most probably since the dawn of time. You gotta remember the phonograph was commonly known as the PORNograph and these sort of songs were played in Brothels, which were extremely common, far more than today, even though you still find Brothels in every town small and large

Thanks for the insight! Did not know that about the phonograph! I had a feeling that people thought like that. Had no idea songs like these were a "thing" back then, though.

"Their" culture? I didn't know it was a part of "our" culture... Maybe I should have known since I write erotica. Thank you for your self-righteous comment.
