Oscar for Ray Allen? No way. Good movie though. Wish they had the original ball player that Spike Lee wrote for this movie… he was too busy with basketball though and couldn’t spare the time to film it. Kobe Bean Bryant.

As much as I love this Movie, this film did have 1 fatal flaw: College Coaches are not allowed to speak publically about High School prospects prior to them signing to a School. I know Spike Lee wanted to hammer the point home about a High School kid on the Road of NBA potential riches being pulled at every which way, but should have researched on that particular point. Takes you out the movie if you know how NCAA Bylaws work. Especially in the 90s. Schools like Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Georgetown, St Johns, Arkansas and Temple would be on probation if their Basketball Coaches were on Camera talking about an unsigned HS prospect like that

Another flaw: as much as I love Ray Allen the player and person, the hype surrounding him and whether he would've been a potential NBA prospect is usually (not always, but usually) reserved for hyper-athletic players. Someone 6'7 or more who jumps out the gym would've been more suited. There are a few exceptions to the rule, but a super-athletic player would've garnered more buzz (TMac, LeBron, Kobe, Dwight Howard to name a few).

I will say as a film student my defense to that is Spike Lee did it as a metaphorical way to show Denzel's character where his son really was with his talent/life proving him that he became better than his Dad while also showing the Jesus character that he does have options despite his situation. Even though it's not accurate, it's a filmmaker's perspective on exposition & showcasing the shift of the characters leading to the final climax
