This man is an underrated genius. Spike Lee was speaking on things in this movie that are coming to light 20 years later(see FBI college scandal)

Good flick but Summer of Sam brings something different to me and it’s a shame because I think that’s Spikes most underrated work.

Still can’t believe Jesus was really suppose to be played by Kobe but he said no

I think there still some confusion on the underlying themes and symbolism’s of this movie, based on this interview. The critical juncture of Jesus’ journey was playing ball on the court with his dad, his dad drove him to throw the ball over the fence, dad got mad, came home and it leads to mom getting pushed. One of the last scenes of the movie, father Denzel throws the ball over the prison yard fence and it lands on the sons college court. What does this mean? Does the ball represent anger, resentment and ultimately forgiveness? This movie reminds me a lot of Field of Dreams. Both are movies about father son relationships and the means to fixing a fractured relationship. In Field of Dreams, the field represents forgiveness and second chance. It’s hard to unwrap movies like these. I’d be curious to hear others perspectives on this type of movie. What does the final scene mean when Denzel throws the ball over the prison fence and it lands on the college court.

I mean mothers and fathers alike force their children to go to school , and push them extra hard to make it to college . So I mean this is happening and every aspect of life not just sports.

Can someone explained given the last scene with Jake throwing the ball over the wall and somehow the ball landing in Jesus hands?

I think the biggest subconscious part of his writing comes from the most original story of a father pushing a son to sacrifice himself for the sake the father, and that character’s name was also Jesus. For what it’s worth...in that story...he’s also a person that shuttles to freedom.

I think spike has gotten way too much vitriol for entirely reasonable opinions on Quentin using the n-word. That being said I absolutely love Jackie Brown and wouldn't change a thing about it.

Jungle Fever was a strange movie I saw it and I guess that's how it was with race relations back at that time
@VickStarkiller Жыл бұрын
That movie is more about the crack epidemic than race relations. The race aspect also ain’t a commentary on how the world would react I think. I think it’s just one story that is made up of how one person’s life would fall apart if they cheated on their wife. Adding the race aspect only makes it more complicated.
