Many converso jews and moriscos settled among the spaniards and natives throughout north and western mexico during colonial times and eventually assimilated into the larger mestizo / criollo gene pool and forgetting their practices or simply rejecting it for catholicism

Keep lying to yourself. The only reason catholicism is dominant is because catholics oppress every other group. There are still over 100,000 practicing muslims in Mexico but lets be real most religious people would want to leave that crime ridden violent country. One of the most corrupt countries in the world.

I love living in Mexico because it is so Catholic. I lived in Spain for a while but to be honest it was not catholic enough. Way too many Muslims.
