My only concern is closed religious (doesn't actually have to be religious) communities like this sometimes become breeding grounds for really scuzzy stuff. Victims can't really escape their community without leaving all they've known behind. And victimizers are often given protection due to their status in the community.

This was a very challenging story to tell, given all of the tension and controversy, but I felt that I did the best of my ability to tell a well-rounded story, highlighting both the positives and the negatives in the community. One note about the North Korean internet comparison - I do regret keeping that part in because it is not true, and I got carried away. Thank you to those who have pointed it out. My team and I worked for 6 months to get this video edited and ready to post, and I am really proud of how it came out. Huge thanks to Abby Stein, Shloime Zionce, Beri Weber and the others who gave me their time to explain life in their community. As always, I welcome your comments, thoughts and suggestions about the Hasidics in the comments here. I will be reading them all and responding to as many as I can 🙏

Let it be known to all: Through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit! I tell ye, truly, Jesus of Nazareth is the propitiation for the whole world's sins. He is the anointed one, for he is, Jesus Christ. God the Father has raised him from the dead; who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God! Angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, but by him. They who believe and are baptized with the Holy Spirit shall be saved; but they who believe not shall be damned. For they who believe not on him, shall die in their sins! I tell ye now to repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit upon asking the Father! There are *NO* sub-divisions of Christianity. You're either a disciple of Christ or not. A Christian is someone who follows God's word, not a religion. Who obey the Father and follow his will; not man's nor their own heart's. Unless you keep Jesus' commandments, think not the Holy Spirit will dwell within you! They who heed this message and did what was stated with an open heart to God... Read the Holy Bible (KJV) daily and every time before you read, pray to the Father and ask: "Lord I ask that you give me understanding of your word, that I interpret it the way you want me to, and none of my own. I ask you in Jesus' name, amen." 1 John 2:2 KJV 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Acts 13:26-33 KJV 26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, *and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.* 27 *For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.* 28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. 29 *And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.* 30 *But God raised him from the dead:* 31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. 32 *And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,* 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. 1 Peter 3:22 KJV 22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. John 14:6 KJV 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Mark 16:16 KJV 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. John 8:24 KJV 24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. Acts 2:38 KJV 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Luke 11:13 KJV 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? John 14:21-24 KJV 21 *He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.* 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, *If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.* 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and *the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.*

Abby Stein was really courageous for helping with this tour. I understand the community didn't work for her, but she was neutral and even supportive about the way it works for others. I thought she made a great liaison, bridging the cultural gap. And it's also important because there is an LGBTQ population in orthodox communities which need to feel that they have a face, a voice and a choice. Many kudos and thanks to Abby for her charm and kindness in the making of this video.

I think the only belief that can save humanity, is to love our world, nature and each other. Any belief system that separates one human from another, especially with violence, Is a zero-sum game. Why would God wish death or war OR SEGREGATION by his word? If God created this amazing planet and everything on this planet? Why would God want us to destroy each other or any part of it's beauty? Orthodoxy is cozy...you feel safe having the "right" belief. But to be "right" about what God wants means that another person hast to be "wrong" about what god wants. This is what is often referred to as Zero-sum game. There is the earth and it's flora and fauna. We may be the "keepers" of the earth....as CHOSEN by God? If we are.....don't we have to STOP making war? Look at all the wars through the millennia......isn't it time to make the final law? The law against WAR SO that we can move forward in peace? Didn't God create Physics if God created the World? So then......God=Science=Math=Physics? God=Truth=Math=Science=Physics=Law....etc...AND ETC. God doesn't seem so complicated to me.....God=Truth=Geometry=Math...... Anyway you get my drift. I recommend all ltra Orthodox religions look at the fossil record That humans have unearthed, and found falling out of eroded rock. Pliosaur......it's not in the Torah. But it should be.

I felt it was a very fair interview. As a fellow Ashkenazi Jew (raised between conservative and orthodox, but never reform) it was very informative even to me. I learned quite a bit and I had some lingering questions answered. Currently living far from home here in Texas and I’ve been longing for some nostalgia. A longing for some sense of community as I have neglected the teachings to my kids and wonder if I’m doing right in my life. I left the community young and made a fairly decent life for myself, but as I get older I understand more and more it’s not always about money. And lately I’ve been searching for answers to what our consciousness is and the gift we have been given, and it’s been a struggle to keep a grip on reality and support an entire family with a world that depends on me. Part of me regrets not using the teachings, and letting the traditions behind me. And I can only pray I find the answers to unburden my soul. When I watch your documentary, I see one thing. Children and adults who are content and living in this dimension, focusing on what they believe is the right way, and everyone with a sense of belonging. It is hard to watch your video and not envy that, or yearn for that same love and respect. Great job drew, I will be watching more of your work. Keep it up

Ok, there is just something mystical about Shabbat that draws this Protestant to Judaism. Always has. The father blessing his children brought tears to my eyes. The ancient sacred sounds of language and song, the shofar. My fondest memory of visiting Israel was traveling to the airport on Shabbat and seeing the families around the tables inside their homes. If you belong to such a family, you are blessed. I now have two favorite KZbin videos, and this is one of them! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

The sabbath was always meant to be a time of REST! No matter where you find the lord, you’ll find He wishes you to SIT DOWN, and enjoy your family time! Why not make a time of it every week in your regular life! No tech nights (lights and such excluded, or add them in and have a safe camp out!), where board games and take out (so everyone gets to rest from making and cleaning up) are the easiest to start with! If your family has flown the coop, time to have a nice camp out! Enjoy the peace brought upon you by for learning to rest❤️ God bless you and all you come into contact with hun!!!

Perhaps if you knew what they did behind the scenes, in the dark, and in the tunnels, you would have less respect for them Their faith is in mysticism, the occultic Kabbalah and the Luciferian Talmud, not the Holy Bible (which they claim is the least important). Their "family values" are odd at best (pe-do-phili∆ and r∆pe are rampant amongst the Ju's. Their "holy" book the Talmud not only condones it but encourages it. Why we're now hearing so much about the I-D-F raping prisoners, especially children, which they've been doing for years. We're even seeing videos of it in action. We've all heard about that horrific ra-pe in one of their dreadful prisons just a few weeks ago that was filmed and sent around the internet! The I-D-F soldiers that did it were arrested, then hundreds of Ju's in the city rioted around the prison demanding the release so the authorities released them. Sounds like Sodom and Gomorrah, when the sodomites were banging on the door of Lots home demanding he release his guests so they could rape them). The head honcho Ju I-D-F soldier who instigated the ra-pe went on the talk show circuit justifying it. Just horrific). Those are not normal people. No wonder Jesus hated them. He rebuked them and said they were of the Syn-ag-ogue of Sa-tan Revelation 2:9, 3:9 John 8:38-44

Great Video! I grew up in South Tottenham in North London - which has the largest Hasidic community in Europe. I instantly recognised the closed community, i used to live next door to a hasidic family for many years and they didn't interact with us once but were always polite in passing. Despite living in a small area the community was very seperated, They had compeltely different schools and shops. However, South Tottenham specifically the Stamford Hill area is more diverse than South Williamsburg. This video despite being in New York was so regonisable and it felt and reminded me of my home. Thank you for showing the amzing culture that this community has.

Be it known: Through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit!

Judaism is a peaceful religion , Zionism came after in the 1940's , Zionism is this idea that peaceful Jews are weak and Jews need to fight and defend , its ideology is similar to jihad , the problem is that Zionism is not a real religion , it was created by the British secret service ( Mi6 ) and the Americas ( CIA ) after WW2 , its essentially a man made ideology with secular and communist foundations that calls for a homeland , so its a man made religion just like Mormonism or Freemasonry , but Zionism has its own beauty , its got its own unique history , in any case I respect both Zionist and ultra conservative has disc Jews , both follow the same rules

As I was told the story when a child, Jesus was a practicing Jewish person. It would stand to reason then, that in order to better know this person one would have to have some basic understanding of the Torah. I wish more people could find their way to this understanding or rather opinion. Keeping the Laws for thousands of years through all that they have had to live through has to be a mixed blessing. To see people marching with torches through the streets of America screaming ugly things based on religious hate of a people is a sad thing to me.

Setting aside a day a week to enjoy great food, turn off devices, and enjoy your family and be in the moment is just beautiful and aspirational no matter a belief system. This actually really inspired me to implement some kind of slow, mindful, dinner nights in my house. I think it's a beautiful example for the children as well to give them this tradition and sort of touch stone for self care and togetherness. So uea, anyways thank you for this Beautiful video and tha k you to the family and rabbi who allowed this to be shared with us ♡

As another non religious person (who still holds a strong faith in God) I’m also not a fan of many organised religions however, these connections can still be formed when you’re non-religious by being more family and local community oriented. I feel it’s very easy in our current economic situation to get caught up constantly working and making money but taking time out to nurture positive relationships especially with family is always more important. The reality is many people born into Conservative religions feel trapped by the community they like. Choosing that path is different.

Shame they did not show you how they barbarrically slaughter their animals and offload the unwanted bits on to us the infidels. All jews cannot funtion in the meat they produce without the rest of us they abuse.

Growing up I had many friends of all religions and learned about lots of different cultural practices, however I never met someone who practiced Judaism. Now in my 20s and living in LA as a private school teacher I’ve taught at lots of Jewish schools. I’ve been really interested in learning about the different aspects of the religion and even attended my first Shabbat a couple weeks ago. This video was extremely informative!!!!

being born in northern europe, i never met a lot of jews either. i visited the US a few times and we where at a synagogue just to have a look. a lady there asked if we where jewish and we replied "no, just tourists", but she was very nice and answered our questions. its a interesting religion for sure. i love reading about philosophy and there are a lot of really funny and thoughtworthy stories from judaism.

I’m a New Yorker who frequently bikes through the Hasidic Jewish communities of Brooklyn (to get to other places). New York is such a fascinating place and I love my city for its diversity. This was very well put together. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

I absolutely loved meeting the guy at 9:27. What a beautiful human being! You can tell that he loves life and people. Thank you Drew for a fascinating glimpse into this amazing culture. My deepest gratitude and respect also goes out to those in the community who were so welcoming to your project, and thus, by proxy, to me.

I am a Muslim, really appreciate and respect the work you are doing. It was a beautiful video and I really respect the beautiful family values that Hasidik Jews have we were almost the same back home in Pakistan. I would like to visit the Hasidik community someday to enjoy the food in the restaurants, I believe it's just a few hours drive from here (Toronto).

Wonderful job with this one! Abby will remain in my thoughts. To choose to be honest to and about one's self in that extreme context shows tremendous courage, and she seems to have retained love for the culture that rejected her, which shows tremendous grace. I am an outsider of lapsed Catholic background, but I can't help but think there are lessons for all of us, including rabbis, in her story.

@protonrecuva6717 I don't think I quite get you, but.... Feelings objectively exist just as our bodies do. Her experience exists. If you are making the point I think you are, there is no problem in applying it to your own life and decisions. Applying it to the paths of others, which you have not walked yourself is very much a problem. Abby does not seem to project any judgements on the beliefs and actions of others even when they hurt her. I live within a mainstream culture where people freely judge the choices of others even when there is no effect on their own lives, and broadcast these judgements as widely as possible. Abbey's way seems preferable to me. It seems to have more grace.

Hey Drew, Thanks for the awesome video it was great, Im a Hasidic Jew living in Brooklyn. You got a remember that not everyone is so closed off, and it's not like a cult. we know what's going on in the news and everything else ... and there are some extreme and some less. I really think why people didn't want to get interviewed on the street is because everyone is just so busy doing their thing, not because of being filmed. There is a lot more to see about our community We want you back Drew! Tnx again.

some corrections (as an orthodox jew who spent time in lakewood [the biggest religious community]): 0:54 women get wigs when married not 18 (18 is not that important in orthodox judeism) 6:37 - a lot of chasidik me don't have furry hats 15:40 - in religious judeism the torah reading is notation ever the main part (it isn't even needed) and girls arn't even allowed to read for congration and you normaly read a whole large section (normal 1/52th) 17:55- NO NOT ALL CHASIDISH JEWS ARE ANTI - ZIONIISTS infact some of the biggest, most piouse Jews like R' kook were Zionists (satmars are though) 21:10 - most important duty is torah 38:37 - shabbos ends at 3 stars but starts at sundown
